I'm going to address this issue as my assistent has dealt with this several times in the last few weeks here in Jaco. NOT EVERY GIRL YOU SEE ON THE STREETS IS WORKING! She has been propositioned twice for money and she looks nothing like she is a working girl. Only an idiot would take her as one. Luckily I haven't been around when it has happened and haven't had to bitch slap some idiot gringo! 1) Don't assume every girl in the country is a prostitute. 2) If she is, treat her with respect. She is still a person.

This is the kind of ignorant behavior that eventually leads to big problems.

When the local police here in Minneapolis shut down a section of street where pros have been working, it's often because a woman also in the neighborhood has been harassed.

It also gives all the locals a bad taste in their mouths about gringos. Think of how you'd feel if a bunch of non-English speaking tourists came up to your female friend, your sister or your wife and propositioned her for sex for money?

It is a crying shame that some of us are so uneducated.

I agree. She dosen't look or act like a working girl. Some idiots come to CR thinking they can have any girl they want for $50. This is the kind of stuff they hear from thier drinking buddies. One guy goes to CR, tells his story and the tales grow taller on down the line. I know a couple of guys like that. They behave the same in strip clubs. If THEY are drunk with a pocket full of cash... every woman around is treated like a puta by them. CR seems to attract its fair share of these "gentlemen".

I agree, the girls that work for me in the SJ area are treated like working girls all the time. They hate most gringos.

Guys save the nasty stuff for the criminals and the malo taxi guys and treat the rest of the people like you would like to be treated.

I couldn't agree more with the above. Man men are just as phuck up as the women that don't put out for us ! Seriously having some class & intelligence will get you much further down the road ! The terrible thing about the gulch too me is the way it affects some of these weak minded individuals. They start thinking all Latinas are like the ones in the gulch.

TW is completely correct. Hopefully they are Los Suenos fat wallet guys that do not have a clue and not CRT members. I have run into a few at the BB in Jaco and they think all the locals are putas.

If you treat them all with respect your experience will be better.

In a way I can see the inconsistency here.

Unless this thread is strictly about controlling one's behavior so as to not behave boorishly, the discussion is a bit disingenuous. I say this because so many of us here espouse a philosophy which says, "All women are prostitutes, whether you marry them or pay by the hour." Look at Paco Loco's taglines and those of others here.

No one can really blame any of us for having that attitude. Most of us have been burned at one time or another by mercenary females.

OTOH, we'll all get along better, have more fun and better experiences in Costa Rica if we keep ourselves circumspect and careful when dealing with the locals.

I know that it would piss me off if some foreigner came into my town and offered my wife money for sex. Well, actually I'd be so amazed I'd probably die of a coronary. But yeah, I'd be angry and would start believing all tourists are scum. We don't need the bad rep.

Two points:
1. There are many people who read CRT and never register as a member. Thus it's a good idea from time to time to remind EVERYONE to be civil and use their heads when visiting another country.

2. A couple years ago a working girl was recruiting ladies in the gulch to join her little band of "merry-makers". She made a fatal mistake at the Horseshoe casino: she tried to recruit Dewey Tomko's wife. For those of you that don't know, Dewey is one of the principle owner's of the Horseshoe.

My point? Anyone can make a social faux pas, just try to make sure it isn't you.

I am glad someone brought this point up it about time. When I was in Brazil in March I meet some newbies to the sport outside of one of the local banks on my way to eat. The idiots unable to speak or read the atm asked the next girl who clearly looked like a office 9 to 5 young women for help.As they did not take my word that the atm machine would not take there card since I did my homework before going, and knew only a few bank atms in the city would accept there US cards.The girl being nice helps them and told them in english you know this is really stupid how do you someone would not ask for another transation and take money from your account. The guys reply we waited until we saw someone honest. LOL in RIO that was the best and funnest thing I heard the whole trip right after this is my first time doing this I am new to this yeah sure me too. So the guys then thanked the very wonderful lady for her help by saying hey we are on vacation her and we are going to HELP(A WELL KNOWN WHORE BAR) will you be there tonight. Eventhough I was not with these guys just hanging out waiting for my friend I was so embarrased to be a US citzen.I then turn around to ask the guy hey how would you feel if I was in need, and your sister helped me and to thank her I ask her are you a whore, and if so I would love to Phuck you tonight because idiot that's what you just did. The dumbass then walks away, and said she wasnt that cutie anyway.

I apologize to the young women for my country man stupidity, and off to get her a cab home she declines saying she lives only 2 blocks away. We talk, and I find out she went to school here in the states and works for a bank.I tell her so do I and we exchange cards. She ask me where I was staying and I tell her on Nossa senorita, and find out she is not to far away.I tell her that I would love to have dinner not as a pick up just so I dont have to eat alone, and she agree to. I call my friend who was still with his girl from the afternoon as I am waiting on him to eat tells me go ahead without him.

Had a wonderful meal with her, and she took it upon herself to show me to some really cool local clubs in Ipanema. I still talk with her off and on from time to time. I know it would be dumb of me to hope that all guys would educate themselve on customs of a country before going.However if one doesnt know the customs atleast use common knowledge.
