First run movie at a multi-plex theater in the malls will run you about $3.00. On Wednesday afternoons most offer 2 for 1 or reduced price admission.

Refreshments (popcorn, soda, etc) are also much more reasonably priced than in the US. Theaters here are geared toward tico income levels not US incomes.

Thanks guys. I just got back from a PI trip so I'm making all kinds of comparisons to know just how far my dollar will go. At the moment the only thing I see that is pricey in San Jose is dining out. Of course I'm not talking about the sodas...

If you don't mind spending a little more money, they have a "VIP" theater in one of the upscale malls. Big, comfortable seats, and you can order drinks and food right there in the theater. My tico friends took me there on my first trip to CR. I don't remember too many details, maybe some of the other members are familiar with it.

Movie is the "Cinepolis" which is located in the Terramall in Tres Rios. It is a fairly long taxi ride from the gulch and unless you have someone with a car to take you there do not think it is worth the extra cost to get there and back.
