Hey Guys,
With uniforms, it might help us identify the legal vs. illegal taxi drivers. This appeared in Inside Costa Rica today:

Taxi Drivers Must Be in Uniform or Face Fines
Taxi drivers now have to be dressed in blue pants and white shirt - the uniform for all licensed taxis - or face fines by the Policía de Tránsito. The regulation imposed by the Consejo de Transporte Público (CTP) came into effect Thursday.

On the first day of the regulation, 87 taxi drivers were fined - 44 for not complying with the uniform regulation and the rest of other offences under the Ley de Tránsito.

To ensure that the law is respected, the Policía de Tránsito will be setting up spot checks in various points of the country, with a close eye on taxi drivers who fail to dress in proper attire.

In addition to the fine, the owner of the taxi could lose his concession (taxi license), according to Transport Vice-Minister, Viviam Martín.

José Antonio Rojas, head of Fenataxi, the taxi union, said he will be placing a "recurso amparo" - an appeal - against the measure. The appeal will be made to the Constitutional Court on the basis of violation of rights and intimidation by the Policía de Tránsito.

I don't get it. What is putting on a pair of blue pants and a white shirt supposed to do. MG..how is that going to distinguish the Pirates from the regulars? (anyone can put on the homemade uniform) The surest way to distinguish these two groups is the existance of a meter.I assume the Govt. thinks they will look classier.

Dress code is the same all over San Jose but at the Pres the shirt must be long sleeve, buttoned to the neck. The trousers must touch the ground and their socks must come to the knees.

However, the security guard on duty may change the policy at any time for any reason  .

Fine with me. a "taxi driver" that I left Cafe Mundo with who said he didn't know where the Presidente was. I was able to get out when he was caught in traffic and wherever he was gonna take me I don't think I would have liked it
