Just when we thought that chicas were already gorging on US fast foods and getting heavier this news hits.

Cinnabon, Wendy's, Dunkin Donuts and Baskin Robbins all are getting to ready to open outlets in Costa Rica.

From Inside Costa Rica, Saturday June 17, 2006:

Quote:
Wendy’s and Cinnabon Soon in Costa Rica
U.S. fast food chains Wendy´s and Cinnabon are to start operations here towards the end of next July.

Wendy’s will open the first of 14 restaurants on Central Avenue, while Cinnabon will do so at Multiplaza in Escazu.

In the next couple of years, Baskin Robbins and Dunkin Donuts will start operations here, according to Nubia Torres, marketing manager for these two firms.

The increase in U.S fast food franchises in Costa Rica is mainly due to Costa Ricans thirst for American fast food. McDonalds, Burger King, Taco Bell and Pizza Hut are well entrenched in the Costa Rican market.

A KFC restaurant that sells a chicken sandwich, for example, at almost double the cost of a 1/2 chicken meal at a "coffee wood" chicken roaster, is always packed while the "chicken roaster" struggles to get customers to come in.

Yes, the fascination with all things new, different, American, and quick continues. Personally, I wouldn't eat in an American FF chain while in Costa Rica (or here for that matter, other than In 'n' Out Burger) if it was the last place on earth.

Yeah, In 'n Out Burger! Was just talking today at lunch that it's the ONE US ff place San Jose could use. But the locals would probably put cilantro on them and figure out a way to make the buns fall apart.

Yes, yes! In and out - aside from twinkies, Its what I miss most from the states. Will one of you Western types please freeze one and bring it down for me? I will pay!
BTW, ID; Do you think the new Wendys will occupy the old Hardy's site on Central? Something's being built there.

Yes. The location given was Avenida Central y calle 1 which is where Hardy's was.

Off course you already know where in Multi Plaza Cinnabon is going seeing how you scope out the progress of the construction every week. :lol:

Because of the clever name..."In-n-Out Burger" joints always catch my eye when I come out to LA, but I haven't tried one yet. I am a little hesitant because I often wondered what kind of "special sauce" is squirted on to an "In-n-Out" burger before its served. :? :twisted:

Blue Devi;
Believe it or not, when you live outside the US, you get a hankering for those fast food places you take for granted when you live there.
