As many may know, I have been taking a 6 month break from Costa Rica, and therefore I have missed and longed for the days of entering again through the double-doors of the Sportsmans and see the stain-glass design that is set at the entrance of the central courtyard.
I pretty much expected everthing that the SL to be just as it was, since everything was pretty much as good as it can get when I last left, but leave it to Bill to improve an already perfect establishment!
Rooms:
Rooms are now furnished with a minibar and snacks for those who crave a drink (or two or three) after closing hours of the bar. The minibar also has 3 bottles of water and Alka Seltzer to help stave off that massive hang-over awaiting when you awake. If anyone has the munchies, there's peanuts, candybars and other little snacks to hold you over until the morning.
There are also condoms to leave no excuse for unsafe sex, and mints (halls) so that you don't scare your current chica off with your nasty-ass dragon-breath! HA!
Safes have been added to every room to add that extra security to your belongings. I tell you, this place just keeps getting better... WHAT NEXT BILL??
BAR:
The bar replaced that rancid cough-syrup we fondly know as Maxx by the great tasting Red Bull (GOD BLESS!!) This was a God-send for me, as my drink of choice (as you all may already know) is Jager-Bombs, and so this was a great addition to the bar!
The menu has some wonderful additions which all taste phenomenal. The Garlic Fish is my personal favorite new addition.. Yowza!! This is some good shit, and I HATE FISH! I never tasted the T-bone, but a friend of mine did and said it was a brontosaurus size cut of meat which tasted phenomenal! Kudos to the bar!!
One negative, which isn't even a negative really and which of course I admit I'm kinda biased on, is that I miss all the old faces behind the bar... Marjorie, Violeta, Karol, Heidi... Those faces and names WERE the Sportsman's Lodge bartenders, and I miss the ol' days when they would take care of me. The new faces just aren't the same, and for the most part, their attempt at making everyone feel like they are at home just wasn't a good subsitute for the old-school honeys that worked way-back-when, they just don't capture the "Cheers" mentality as the old generation did.... (*sigh*)... I'm a creature of habit, so whatever, but I do miss the old gals...
The HONEYS:
Now, understand that although I may not partake of "activities," I DO have eyes and therefore still enjoy taking in the sights of the lovely ladies that frequent the Sportsmans... My oh my, I saw some absolute KNOCKOUTS while there. All the gals from the old fab-five are back and looking better than ever, and they have new recruits to their little gang which are worth drooling over. The weekend brought over some absolute goddesses when the sun went down, which rival any of the best kittens in the Del Rey when it came to the looks department.
The daytime didn't really show anyone too impressive, but in all fairness, there was nothing too impressive at the Del Rey before 3pm either, so Sportsman's is not lacking in any way, shape or form in this department.
CONCLUSION:
Kudos to Bill, who continues to run a top-notch ship! This place is the bomb-diggety, this shiznit, and still THE place for CRT'ers to hang out.
I still say, even a year after first staying at the Sportsman's, that I wouldn't stay anywhere else.
Give it a try on your next visit to paradise... I guarantee you it will be the last and only place you'll want to stay while on future trips to San Jose!
Thanks for reading,
Ruffnutz
