Any resident in Costa Rica is aware of the boondogle at the immigration office in San Jose. A friend of mine,s cedula expired the first week of may. After waiting four hours, he was given an appointmet for the 30th of september!!!. My cedula expires the 21st of this month. I was talking with one of my employees, a nica. He told me he goes to San Carlos to renew his cedula. Yesterday, I drove to the immigration office in San Carlos. I was out in just over an hour, I can pick up my new cedula the 2nd of june. I think you will find this a good alternative to the bullsh*t you have to put up with in San Jose.

Good tip Tuanis. There is no centralized management of any system or company in Costa Rica that I have found. Whether it is INS the insurance monopoly, banks, or RITEVE for vehicle inspections...one location can be completely different or better than another location. Choose your location or "surcursal" carefully.

It is the same everywhere. Some offices are just busier than others. You can wait all day for your DL in Fla or go to the right office and be out in a hour and a half!
