3 years and you are "common" law married CR. Just need proof that he was with her for only 2 years. Or she must provide proof they were together for 3 years if she really intends to file, which is more of a bluff and she knows it. Otherwise, she has no immediate claim.

I can't comment too much on what the outcome will be but I have noticed one thing. They have probably only been together 2 years. Seems the women in Costa Rica count the first day together as one year. Same with birthdays. My old favorita was born in 1984. I actually saw the birth certificate. However, this year she says she says she is turning 23.

If I were the guy, I would however obtain the services of an abogado. CR law is really, really odd and in favor of the females.

AS I was looking at a tica's ID, she claimed she was 22 when the ID showed she was 20 In fact shw kept repeating that shw was 22. WTF

Re: What To Do About Your Old Live-in Novia:

I have a buddy in San Jose who had the same problem with his first Tica live-in novia.

Here is what he did. When he was ready to make his move. Unbeknownest to his novia, he purchased a couple of new door handle locks/keys.
He gave her a few thousand colone and sent her to the supermarket for some grocery shopping. She had to take a bus, and was gone about 2 hours. When she returned he had changed the locks on both the front and rear door on their apartment.

She was unable to enter. He said she stood around the front door for about 30 minutes, with her hurling some acqusations (but no too loud....as there were neighbors) and then she left with the groceries.

That evening he gathered up all her clothes, and possesions, and put them into a taxi (with one of his Tico friends, to look over her possessions.....he did not go) and had the taxi take the clothes, etc. to her mother's house....where she had gone.

My friend said she called the apartment, a number or times after that, but he let the answering maching take the call, and did not personally answer.

It has been 4 months now since then, he has a new live-in novia, and he has not heard from the first one since he found & moved the second chica into the apartment.

Basically my friend found out that the live-in chicas have no real rights when it comes to items in the house/apartment since the the fellow (my friend) bought almost everything to begin with.
The Chica's have the right to get their clothing and own personal possessions back.....really nothing more.

With all due respect to those who post what happened to a friend, what CR law is, etc. I do not believe I would be comfortable accepting those "curbstone" opinions anymore than I would feel comfortable taking my $250,000 Lamborghini to a "shade tree" mechanic.
