Earlier this month, we were informed by CNFL (Costa Rican electric company) that the old side (the old Zona Blue) of our hotel had a faulty electric meter. We also were informed that this has been going on for quite awhile. While we do not know 100% which previous party was involved in this practice, we at HLH have decided to close that side of the operation immediately due to the increase of almost 6x in electric bill after CNFL changed the meter and also to avoid business inheriting a possible penalty from the past effective immediately.
This means that all of our suites and current short term rooms will be closed while we renovate the hotel to create new short term rooms with new beds. Our bar and rest of the hotel rooms will remain the same as before. We also will be reconfiguring our hotel to convert some of our first floor rooms to short term rental rooms in the near future. In a meanwhile, we will be using unrented hotel rooms as short term rooms. Our new entry will be only about 50ft up the hill.
For those of you who already have a reservation in our suites, we offer our sincere apologies, and will be contacting each of you to change your rooms and/or work with neighboring hotels to move your reservations.
On the positive note, now all of our hotel rooms have king size beds and some of the rooms will now include mini-fridge.
Pricing structure will be:
$69 - old Queen size rooms
$79 - old King size rooms
$99 - Junior suite
We will still honor all of our current promotions (30min special, $30 days of Christmas, early bird, cash is king, CRT no guest fee).
Also, we will continue to have our great business relationship with Wiseash and his cigar shop in the new side.
We at HLH are fully committed to make this transition as smoothly as possible, but please pardon our dust while we reconfigure our hotel. We expect the renovation to finish before Sept 1. Our bar will still be open during this renovation as well.

As someone who has a few rental properties, your post caught my interest. I am unclear as to how renovating the interior will give you significant saving on your hydro bill?
