I just reserved it for a short trip in September. I saw one picture of it on the web site.

What's it like? Is it a real suite? Any special amenities like wide screen TV or jacuzzi, etc?

Just to be clear, I've reserved "The Presidential Suite in the courtyard".

Sportmen's needs more pics and descriptions of the rooms :)

I have stayed there twice. If you have an affinity for the old and elegant, it will suit you well. It's almost like staying in a museum. The biggest difference from the other rooms is that it has a large, separate room that could best be described as a receiving room or formal living room, with lots of furniture that is quite old or at least appears to be.

The bedroom is nice but relatively small, again with borderline antique furniture. There is a TV, probably about 26". Nice small wardrobe instead of a closet.

It sounds very nice. I like old furniture, as long as the bed doesn't creak too much :)

It's a beautiful and comfortable suite, if you like that style. Only problems are that it lies along the main entrance hallway and shares a wall with the front desk. It has never been exceptionally noisy when I was in it, and is well away from the bar. However, if you turn in early, are a late riser, or a light sleeper, I can see where this would be a problem.

Should not be a problem. I sleep pretty well so light noise will not be an issue. I'm an early riser, and this trip is really for relaxation, not hard partying, so I'll probably be in bed by midnight. Not being close to the bar is a very good thing. I stayed in the room just behind the computer desks behind the bar, and that was pretty noisy - people would gather near the computers and chat, and I could hear the bar until it closed. However, most nites I was the one closing the bar, so again, no real problem :)

Bill, the owner, has spent a significant amount of time living in that room.

As long as he doesn't snore it's ok with me

Thanks for the detailed reply - it's appreciated!

Chicas love walking into the big bathroom -- must be major part of the fantasy casa they've always imagined themselves deserving...

front room gives you some couches for "extra" recreational acitivity... we made some joke moves in that direction, but then the bed was more comfortable. (Or are we just too classy to go at it on someone's antique furniture? Naaaahh... OK, I confess; I even left a couple towels -- dry -- out there once, to be ready, just in case...)

front desk phone was an early A.M. problem first time in there, but not the second after the window was closed off ... ah, memories!

Try out all the rooms -- the courtyard part is same age as my house -- maybe it's my parallel life I'm seeing there had I been born Tico -- I thank Bill & staff for making his home my second home, and my CRT brothers for keeping it so livable.

Let's just say that only four short years ago, I could not have imagined such a "summer camp for guys" existing -- how DENSE was I!?!

I don't recall the room having its own A/C, but it was always comfortable.

SR

I just read on the site that all 22 rooms have A/C. Yay!

I'm a warm-blooded gringo and I need my AC :)

Yes, as of last summer (I think) all rooms have A/C. They are not window or wall units, they are kind of like portable air conditioners affixed on the wall near the ceiling. They have no visible vent, maybe through the back. They cool very well, can get frigid cold if so desired.

You guys are talking about split units. They're very popular here in Panama - I have one in my living/dining area, and it works great. The huge benefit is it's almost silent - the compressor part is outside. There's a small bundle of tubs and wires that fits through a hole about 2" in diameter, and we rigged mine so you can't even see the tubes and wires.

Mine is only 18,000 BTU and it cools about 1,500 sq ft with no problem - the living area, dining area, kitchen and the long-ass hallway to the bedrooms and office.. each bedroom has a window unit, and I'll probably replace those with small split units later this year 'cuz they're noisy and not very efficient.

Location: Top of the world Ma!
I just stayed in it on Monday night. At first I was caught off guard with thge initial smell. It's rustic and I started to appreciate over the next few hours. My only real complaint was the couches. Those were broken in couches in '72. But def big as hell and I liked the location as it wasn't in the courtyard and you're business is not known as much as you don't have to walk up that main staircase. And the girls def. like the bathroom. The last chick I had wanted a bath so bad.....

But you def. feel like you're in Costa Rica and I enjoyed the character of the room.
