Chiro I hear the Holiday Inn waives the tica fee for VIP's Check with Adm 1.
The 25.00 chica fee stays intact, or it's only 10.00 more for a registered guest.

I heard the Pres has rooms but are advising mongers no vacancy to hold them open for non mongering tourists. Will rent them 2 days before the date. This came second handed so I had my Tica GF call and check
Yes rooms available on your dates and the rate is $51 for a Tico
Interesting possibility-this was mentioned in another thread.

I wanted to ask a question regarding hotels specifically Presidente since we have a CRT discount and they have been trying to attract a "classier" guest. Do you guys mention that you are CRT members when you call to book a room? Or do you just call and try and book a room and then mention your are CRT members?
I'm asking because on one of my previous trips several CRT members were told Presidente was booked but I walked in one day and got a room with no problem. NO advanced reserverations and had no problem.
Just wondering if they are trying to weed out a particular type of guest.

I did not mention it in my inquiry as I had wondered about the same. But figured I would provide it after they returned a favorable response on availability. I like the spa rooms, but the only availability was for 2 of my 4 nights.
So is the Pres. really pulling this and just using us as backup guests to fill rooms at the last minute? Maybe, it would certainly make good business sense to hold out and get 70.00 for a standard room from an eco-tourist instead of only 51.00 from a late night drunken, noisy, gringo-monger parading young women through the hotel.

But as LTS just said he never mentioned CRT, unless they are just profiling single male travelers. Another discrepancy I see is that Chiro's post is confusing -he says no rooms available then states he wanted a Spa suite or Grand Spa suite. LLM's Tica called and they have standard rooms available those dates for 51.00, did she inquire about the spa suites, or did Chiro inquire about the standards? And if the hotel is doing it why would they offer a potential 70.00 room to her at the Tico price of 51.00 if they were trying to hang on to get the full price with the tourist season rapidly approaching?
Not trying to split hairs but just point out the details of this speculation, it wouldn't be surprising if they were doing it and who could blame them but on the other hand at this point it appears there's not enough clear evidence to substantiate it.
I do believe long term guests of the hotel do get priority over new ones, whether us long term regulars are mongers or not. And we should get priority, as Prolijo pointed out how many of those eco-tourists will ever return to stay in the shit-hole we lovingly refer to as the gulch?
