As many may know, I have been taking a 6 month break from Costa Rica, and therefore I have missed and longed for the days of entering again through the double-doors of the Sportsmans and see the stain-glass design that is set at the entrance of the central courtyard.

I pretty much expected everthing that the SL to be just as it was, since everything was pretty much as good as it can get when I last left, but leave it to Bill to improve an already perfect establishment!

Rooms:

Rooms are now furnished with a minibar and snacks for those who crave a drink (or two or three) after closing hours of the bar. The minibar also has 3 bottles of water and Alka Seltzer to help stave off that massive hang-over awaiting when you awake. If anyone has the munchies, there's peanuts, candybars and other little snacks to hold you over until the morning.

There are also condoms to leave no excuse for unsafe sex, and mints (halls) so that you don't scare your current chica off with your nasty-ass dragon-breath! HA!

Safes have been added to every room to add that extra security to your belongings. I tell you, this place just keeps getting better... WHAT NEXT BILL??

BAR:

The bar replaced that rancid cough-syrup we fondly know as Maxx by the great tasting Red Bull (GOD BLESS!!) This was a God-send for me, as my drink of choice (as you all may already know) is Jager-Bombs, and so this was a great addition to the bar!

The menu has some wonderful additions which all taste phenomenal. The Garlic Fish is my personal favorite new addition.. Yowza!! This is some good shit, and I HATE FISH! I never tasted the T-bone, but a friend of mine did and said it was a brontosaurus size cut of meat which tasted phenomenal! Kudos to the bar!!

One negative, which isn't even a negative really and which of course I admit I'm kinda biased on, is that I miss all the old faces behind the bar... Marjorie, Violeta, Karol, Heidi... Those faces and names WERE the Sportsman's Lodge bartenders, and I miss the ol' days when they would take care of me. The new faces just aren't the same, and for the most part, their attempt at making everyone feel like they are at home just wasn't a good subsitute for the old-school honeys that worked way-back-when, they just don't capture the "Cheers" mentality as the old generation did.... (*sigh*)... I'm a creature of habit, so whatever, but I do miss the old gals...

The HONEYS:

Now, understand that although I may not partake of "activities," I DO have eyes and therefore still enjoy taking in the sights of the lovely ladies that frequent the Sportsmans... My oh my, I saw some absolute KNOCKOUTS while there. All the gals from the old fab-five are back and looking better than ever, and they have new recruits to their little gang which are worth drooling over. The weekend brought over some absolute goddesses when the sun went down, which rival any of the best kittens in the Del Rey when it came to the looks department.

The daytime didn't really show anyone too impressive, but in all fairness, there was nothing too impressive at the Del Rey before 3pm either, so Sportsman's is not lacking in any way, shape or form in this department.

CONCLUSION:

Kudos to Bill, who continues to run a top-notch ship! This place is the bomb-diggety, this shiznit, and still THE place for CRT'ers to hang out.

I still say, even a year after first staying at the Sportsman's, that I wouldn't stay anywhere else.

Give it a try on your next visit to paradise... I guarantee you it will be the last and only place you'll want to stay while on future trips to San Jose!

Thanks for reading,

Ruffnutz

What's next in the rooms, the old rooms, is air conditioning. That's air conditioning that really isn't needed in my opinion, but just goes to show Bill and company are doing all there is to make us happy campers.

When I was there, Bill was talking to AC salespeople and a day or 2 later Johana was on the phone ordering the units.

Nice to see you Ruff. I noted some upgrades too: the new clerk booth installed up front and the matching staff T shirts. Bill's definately not asleep at the helm.

Ruff,

You gotta lay off the coffee, man....

This wasn't a review, it was ad copy... Nicely done, nonetheless.

So, how much is Bill paying you for such purple prose? JK...

I agree. The Sportsman's rocked last year, and I can hardly wait to check out all the new improvements. And thanks Bill!

It's a really nice hotel and makes for a great place to stop in now and then. If the SL girls are that hot they must have improved a whole lot in a few months. I hope to get back and take a look soon.

If in doubt of what chicas I am talking about, just ask Bill to point out GetRhythm's "Fab Five" crew and the newly acquired recruits of their gang... Napkins required to avoid drooling in public. My understanding is that most, if not all these kittens live really close together in the same barrio, which is an EXTREMELY poor section of Desamparados. I've been there once and it's pretty humbling. But GAWDDAMN, that little neighborhood sure does spit out some outrageously hot honey-bunnies!

I do give much praises to SL, and no, I get nothing in return, but El Ciego, my friend, you of all people know that as much as I may constantly outpoor praises of a place I love, I also mercilessly bash the places I hate... All in all, I still believe that I am 100% objective on all my reviews. Look at my recent praises of Kamur, the very place I was banned from for negative reviews... The place really did treat me very well on my recent visit and I gave the place it's due kudos.

By the way El Ciego, will you be shacking up at SL or the Prez for Labor Day? I have the penthouse locked in for that weekend so if you are at the SL, that will mean some late night after-parties for those staying there with me!

See ya,

Ruffnutz

My last trip in March I thought the quality was as good or better than the HDR. Obviously, not as much variety. I know of no HDR girl that can hold a candle to Alexa. Admin, if you can ever find her and she agrees, she would make one heck of a TOM. Stunning face and outrageous body.

Bill doesn't really do so much visible anymore short of being a great host. He has applied all of the "Managerial" functions to Johanna. She pretty much runs the place. It is true that "uniformed" shirts are being applied from the front desk to the bar. Kinda nice, but I think it takes away from the unique charm that the SL once held.

YO SL enthusiasts:
Old Circus inquired as to staying at the SL for Labor Day but although they are great hosts, nice digs and have a chica friendly atmosphere......the SJ government officials have informed me that I best not try to stay there in that my presence would lower the standards of the lodge. Not to mention that it would be a conflict of interest with my ownership of the "Cardboard Inns." My "Crack staff" is working on this problem.

If El Ciego has problems with finding lodging then I will certainly assist him with occupancy in my Inns at a discount. It's the least I can do.

Guys,

I am booked into the SL, but I don't know where they're going to put me. Unlike you veterans, I don't know my Hermosa from a hole in the ground. I didn't know one could specify a room, and I wouldn't know which room to specify, even if I did. Mucho, Ruff... I'm counting on your help here. If either of you is in the SL during the next few weeks, please talk with Bill and/or Johanna for me and make sure I've got a good spot? :?

I'm just a little lamb, lost in the bush.... Thanks for your help. Bill, if you're reading this, PM me. Thanks!
