When I got a room on Oct. 31st, they had two rooms available only due to cancelations. A regular room on 2nd floor for $54 and a delux on the 5th floor @ $110.
I'll stay at DR again.

Just a couple of comments concerning netgem's and Sirlm's posts.

(1) If the rooms at the REY are ALWAYS full why did they cut the price in half during the US depression and STILL have not raised the price back up? Why is it that even when other popular venues are full you can still get a last minute room at the REY?? A very reliable source has stated that over the last 2 years the REY has averaged less than 60% occupancy!!!

(2) The REY and Sirlm"s "business model": It is a Gringo owned business dealing (mostly) with Gringos! If it had been aimed towards the Ticos from the beginning it would have never succeeded nor lasted. JMHO

I've been coming to the HDR since 2004, every year except 2007 thru 2009 when I lived here, the average rooms were around 45$ or so a night back then and they are about $55 a night now, I never saw them above this amount except for December and early January which all hotels raise their prices I believe.

I doubt HDR occupancy is as low as 60%, I'm no expert but every time I'm there and hanging around the front desk, sitting and watching the cavalcade of chicas, guys are constantly checking in, it's always bustling and busy.

I will say I once decided to stay at SL and called two weeks in advance and all the good rooms were booked, the girl taking reservations tried to trick us into the noisy rooms in the front but I caught her lying  , then called HDR and got our normal rooms. One time my crew decided on short notice, 3 days, to head down, the HDR was filled then, we ended up staying at Presidente, a beautiful hotel but liars on chica visitation policy, everyone stay away from them !!!!

It's a hoot if you love being in the belly of the beast, tripping the light fantastic and seeing and having access at all times to the most chicas possible, but if you like quieter, classier surroundings in nicer neighborhoods (although Zona, Mona and Scores neighborhood is just as suspect to me, SL and Amistad are nicer) with friendlier more personal staff, the other places are better choices. The majority of guys who stay at HDR are repeat visitors as opposed to the "theory" it's all rube newbies, I talk to many of these guys every visit, they don't know or care about CRT and the "prevailing wisdom". They continue to stay there, have fun, get laid and party down...

Hey Net.........

Here's a "better fantasy" , which was really an "actuality."

In the HLH days, the legendary Karen was going to school to get her GED. I used to help her with her math homework on the benches at HLH.

One day, she came to work at HLH directly from school, wearing her school uniform with her books under her arm.

I couldn't resist....... I pounced IMMEDIATELY.

I got to take off her school uniform in my room, and had the usual SPECTACULAR time that she is famous for providing.

When we were finished, she put on her "work uniform" and want back to work in the bar.

I love that girl.

What an experience!!!

Many years later I still remember my Karen encounters as I'm sure several here as well as you do, they all were splendid, she is a sweet loving giving patient magnificent beauty, too bad she's retired, I still recommend you encounter her "student" shhhhhhh.....

[quote="SpeakNo"]To Netgems:
Recently I booked at Castillo and subsequently I was moved to Hemmingway Inn, due to renovations.
Upon arriving I immediately walked over to Del Rey to try and book a room. Fortunately they had a delux on the 5th floor. This was my 11th trip to CR.
Man, I really enjoyed my stay at DR. Nice room, great service. Such a change from walking or taking taxis back and forth. KL was also packed over halloween weekend. I totally agree with your assessment of stay at Del Rey. Had a very enjoyable trip.

That's my main reason for staying there, the availability at all times of the largest number of chicas and the fact you don't have to be walking and or taking taxis all over town at night in search of love, I really enjoy evenings at the HDR, I ignore the catcalling grappling hags and slither about in search of "that one" every night, chat her up, see if I have a "connection" where we are clicking (BangBang says attitude is the most important aspect of a chica and I wholeheartedly concur, I've walked away from many arrogant beauties and gladly picked a sweet fun little cutie with a hot bod who may not stand out in the crowd but goes to work the moment your room door shuts !) The thrill is picking her up in the bar and 10 minutes later undressing her in your room !!!

Rac, I remember all my great times with Karen and a few with her and Laura. You really put her on a pedestal.

I would have to believe the 60% or so occupancy rate is true. I've spent a lot of time sitting on the wall in the KL parking lot looking up @ the windows of the DR rooms-very few have lights on.

I stayed one night in the Del Rey on Labor day weekend 2001. My room was on the second floor above the bar and very noisey. I paid $79 for the room. Back then, the Del Rey was packed every night and the bar across the street from the Blue Marlin entrance was also packed. I moved to the Presidente the next day and paid $45 a night. This was my first trip and forever changed my life.
