Amon/Otoya works for me as a name. I usually stay in Barrio Amon and often go to Barrio Otoya for more bars and restaurants. It is much more comfortable than the regular gulch for several reasons. I just hope it doesn't turn into the zoo that one finds in the original gulch. I really don't want to buy a coconut head and I can do without the street riffraff. When some of the hotels were looking at hiring some private security for the neighborhood I thought it was a great idea. Sadly, some of them declined and it seems to have been shelved.

I had asked a certain hotelier about a Hospitality Association but was told--No, they are independendent operators and that wasn't going to happen. In light of current crime statistics and that they all have more to lose, maybe that decision will be revisited. We can only hope...

Veelee, Just out of curriosity, what bars do you go to in Otoya? I like nice chilled out bars and haven't found a whole lot in SJO.

this may have just tipped the scales for me for my decision to visit again this fall!

The amistad is a great place to stay, excellent staff too!

Chica-friendly but none hangin' out--you gotta import them from down the street or elsewhere.
