NYTimes article about those who take care of us in the air, some of whom are CRT Brothers:
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/14/trave ... ref=travel

And as a subsequent post will show, it's fixin' to get somewhat tougher.

Flight attendants for the legacy carriers are generally very angry with their employers and have been known to take it out on passengers. Based on the way American flight attendants' treated my family on their last trip, we will never fly on American again.

You really cannot blame the flight attendants for being angry, but they shouldn’t take it out on the passengers. At American Airlines for example, the flight attendants gave up salary and benefits to keep the airline alive and then the sleaze-ball-scum-of-the-earth executives voted themselves a secret multi-million dollar bonus package.

At United, the flight attendants not only took a pay cut, then they were swindled out of most of their pension benefits for which they had worked for all their lives.

I'd be pissed too.

Then quit. One thing American workers seem especially bad at is finding a different job and being ready to transition when your relationship with your employer is no longer profitable.Granted, as shallow and bitter as these old gringas are, who would hire them anyway?

In reality, the only way to penalize employers is to simply walk away.In mass. Especially if your job requires extensive background checks.Be it airline worker or teacher, you are not getting paid what you are worth because, and only because you allow your employer to do so.

Hopefully, beginning next January, sanity will once again be restored to the FAA and other critically important Federal agencies. If possible, I believe the FAA would have outsourced your job to someone in India.

Not a lot of folks happy with the “Mayberry Machiavelli’s” who currently control the executive branch of government.

You are living in a fantasy dream thinking your savor will make everything right. Congress and the FAA have the responsibility to act and act it has not. You need to perhaps sit in small circles and sing Kum bye ya......then perhaps the clouds will go away and everything will be bright. Son, you do not have a clue.

Just remember....in general for many years, government sucks.

Thank you for your input. It appears you are highly sensitive and I am sorry you were offended.

That notwithstanding, I am confused about how you jumped to the conclusion that I have a political savior or that the imaginary savior could make “everything right”? I never said anything about who I support politically.

The FAA falls under the auspices of the Secretary of Transportation who is a cabinet member and is therefore appointed by the president. Also, the FAA Administrator is appointed by the president. If I am not mistaken, that appointment is to a five year term. Those appointments directly tie any outcomes of the FAA (positive or negative) to the president regardless of which party is in power.

Just like nearly every other American, I agree that Congress is a dismal failure (14 percent approval rating), mired in its own self interests and not those of the people of the United States. Nevertheless, nearly all members of congress will be returned to office in the November elections. More than anything else that is a function of the design of congressional districts, the power of incumbency (which means the ability to finance an election) and name recognition. But when people vote, more likely than not, they will put the incumbent back in office.

I am not sure why you are trying to connect the concepts of clouds, brightness and a song titled Kum Bay Yah with sitting in small circles. Why would I want, as you suggested, to sit in a small circle and sing a song that I that I find to be nauseating?

The fact is that not a lot of folks are happy with the current administration. As of August 20, 2008, Bush had a 28 percent approval rating; 67 percent disapproved and five percent didn’t know or didn’t care to respond. (The lowest approval rating was Harry Truman in 1949.)

Actually, I am not your son; and yes, I really do have a clue. :D

Guys like to post things that they think are muy Tico in Costa Rica and indeed there are many. But there are things in the U.S. that are equally as screwy.

For example, Most polls show that congress has a dismal approval rating and people want them voted out of office. But when asked about their congressmen they give him high marks and plan to vote for him in November.

CAN YOU SAY EARMARKS?

Would somebody, anybody tell me why a post about showing some empathy for the folks attending when possible to our air-travel needs got morphed into a Left / Right political discussion? The FA's I was posting about don't give a flying phuck (pun most definitely intended) about this stuff, and in this Forum neither do I. Plenty of space in this playground, fellas; please find another corner to vent in.

The flight attendants on TACA & LACSA have always been very cordial. I have yet to come across one on either that has been rude, or short with anyone.

I'm flying COPA to MDE in November and it will be interesting to see how the flight attendants are on that carrier.

IMHO, the reason may be two fold. It is still a fairly decent paying job in Latin America/South America, and their culture is less in-your-face reactionary.

Also, the short hops that I take to San Francisco, and Phoenix, the Southwest flight attendants are usually very nice.
