Isn't worth 75,000 colones. It does not have anywhere near the 'best burgers in costa rica'. I'd be surprised if the place makes a profit.

He was making a joke. 75,000 colones is about $150.

My question about best burger in Costa Rica; what does that mean you only are sick for 2 days after eating it rather than a whole week?

I find it interesting that someone can make a statement about the burger without trying one. Whoever made the statement should go to Doc Browns and try a burger. If you do not like it the owner will refund your money. So the challenge is there. All of you who make blank statements without knowledge are just full of sh t.

Its no secret the beef in CR isn't like it is in the U.S...so pretty much trying it won't change that fact, and thus rendering it substandard. The taste may be "ok" in the same way guys try to say the chicas they choose are good looking. That's easier to go along with..

So challenge or not a better shit burger isn't necessarily good, but tolerable. Um, kudos for that I guess..

it is very possible to get a good hamburger in Costa Rica. The key to any burger is the ratio of meat to fat. Most prefer a mix of about 84/16. Unlike cuts used for steaks which are neither raised with the necessary marbling or properly aged in most cases which renders them tough and tasteless ground beef can have fat added and aging is not that important. Up to a few years ago the only ground beef you could find in the local markets contained almost no fat which made burgers very dry. Over time, and I guess constant requests by gringos, butchers started adding fat to the molida.

Yes, the taste can be improved by using better grades and types of beef but all in all the average hamburger at a Costa Rica burger joint is not that much different the the average burger a U.S. burger joint. My use of the term "burger joint" is not to confused with a fast food burger places which are abominable in both countries.

Nobody is going to ask for their money back on a $5 burger. I've tried them, they aren't that great and in fact I was sick for at least 2 days following it. Not good beef at all. Sorry. The restaurant ain't worth shit.

Do you know what he is selling? Does he own the building? Does he own the equipment? Just wondering.

Thanks

There is a lease on the space. Yes the he owns all the kitchen equipment, tables chairs, refrigerators. And the owner is willing to negotiate. As to the meat. It is bought at price mart. The rolls are made at Mundo del pan in Escazu. The produce is brought twice a week to keep it fresh. As to the guy who said he got sick from the burgers. Bullshit. Doc Browns has not had anything but good to great reviews. If anyone likes sports book go to their blog and you will see see great comments. Also go to lifestyles in Costa Rica at yahoo and search Doc Browns and see their comments. 12 US embassy workers were there today. They come 2 to 3 times a month. Any American that has come in has said they have not had better in Costa Rica. So again all you guys who only stay in the gulch come and try out one of the burgers and you be the judge. This business needs someone to take it to the next level. The owner needs to get back to the states and does not have the time to open other stores.

Zuko,
Thanks for the detailed response. The reason I asked is this. The way I see it, all the owner really has to sell is the equipment that is in the place. That is all he owns (unless i have missed something) and in this case that is all he can sell. So he is asking 75 Grand for a bunch of used kitchen equipment, used tables, chairs, etc. and the privilege to take over his lease. To be fair, you did say the price is negotiable.

gross receipts can make a difference, but for the most part you're right. reputation can be a big plus if indeed that burger or whatever is viewed as a really good product as well. if the rep is bad it can be impossible to overcome as well.
pretty hard to make a case for selling a good business ime. especially a small one. cause if business was that brisk why would you sell it? or why wouldn't someone close to you try and steal it before it hit the market.
either way i wish the owner luck and if it is still there in june i will stop in for a burger. cheers.

Of course nobody would sell it if business was good. So ya, you are paying $75k for a failing business and some old equipment and chairs that probably have a liquidation value of a couple thousand dollars at the most.
