What did you do on all your re-con trips?????

I know all of what you stated from several three week trips

How is a chicas boy friend going to rob you?

You have to open your door, and then unlock the gate at the Scotland and the guard is semi alert to what is going on... sure I would not bring a random chica home at 2 am

Scotaland.. great location.... train does suck

As far as vegatables... check out the farmers market in Zapote Sunday morning

I know it must be hard, but you will burn trough you money in a hurry if you need to rent a room every weekend and the highlite of the day is HLH happy hour

Work on that spanish and find what is good about San Jose... outside the gulch

What happened to all the favs you had lined up

thanks for the up date and I wish you well...still wearing the hat :D

Working on the Spanish.

I have a very high end laptop and the girls I've brought over have all oohed and ahhed over it. It makes me a little nervous. I've heard ticos can be very inventive about getting around gates and security guards if given enough incentive.

Thanks about the tip on farmers markets.

Working on my Spanish, going to sign up at Costa Rica Language Academy soon and give up on teaching myself from books.

Getting bored of my favoritas. That's my problem, after about the tenth session it feels like I'm married and been there done that starts to sink in.

I have enough money to swing stays at the SL, and I like the frat house adventure atmosphere of the SL. I can swing stays there at least two or three weekends a month.

Left my hats in the USA in my storage unit. I'll probably bring them on my next visit, but will only wear them when mongering, not when I'm trying to blend in.

Thanks for the follow up

This is a tread about moving to Costa Rica, and a random guy is is telling his tale

K P brings an often over looked point, that when you live down there you will get a reputation, like it or not. Good bad or in in the middle, think about that

I have been looking to move to Costa Rica for almost 5 years, and will give it a try soon

With that said... I am not going to give up home base in the state of NH

I do enjoy some of the year here... winter after a week sucks

MY point, I need to return to the states, to wash away the chica drama I can create in an exteded stay

When I return after a couple of months, most of that has been forgoten
I think... for me a month in the usa,and a month in CR is the perfect storm

A move - never mind to a foreign country, where language is an issue - is a lot to process. I wish you the very best with it - and think you are making many of the right moves; learning Spanish being a great idea.

Just an observation: I get the impression that you might be a guy who better enjoys CR as a vacation vs a permanent place to live. Freely admit I could be wrong :) Do finances permit a place in the USA in addition to CR?

Also - lock up or hide the computer; its not like you have the "Star of India" diamond in your apartment - I'd never pay for a room (like at the Sportsmans) if I were paying for an apartment - again, that's just me.

Final rant on how you should live your life  :P  - as long as you conduct yourself as a gentleman, I would not give a Phuck what some stupid chica thinks or says about me (or you in this case) - believe me - the fact that (in another thread) you did not wait past a half hour; well good for you, you did the right thing. Next time show up w/in 15 min's of the appointment - problem solved.

Look, you have to do it your way, I don't live there - I know for a fact that one long time member of CRT, a CR resident, has a rep for being cheap - big phucking deal, its not like he is reduced to jerking off and can't get female companionship.

I thnk you need to meet more good guys, they exist in CR, fill your days with positive activities, and w/in 6 months you are going to be really happy you made the move.

PS Leave the hats in storage permanently! :P  :P

Your friend,

Advice 5 cents    :P :P :) :) :)

I hit the SL again last night. Friday nights very busy as usual. Saw lots of potential chicas, and talked to a few. Then I met a chica named Maria, very cute.

One thing I've started asking is "So do you come to the Sportsmans often" just to see what they say. She said she normally works at the HDR, but tonight, very few hombres there, there are more hombres here than at the SL. Interesting, I've never heard that before; I've seen the HDR be low on hombres before, but never fewer than at the SL after I return. I guess their business is hurting, maybe due to their lack of alcohol on Thursday.

I had a good time with Maria. Not going to be in a hurry for a repeat, since as I said, I see lots of chicas I'd like to try out. Maria wanted cien - not surprising for a HDR girl - but I worked her down by lowballing her at $50 and we met in the middle.

If you didn't know, SL now has craft beers on tap from the first microbrewery in Costa Rica (and the first in Central America, from what they claim, not sure about that). Costa Rica Craft Brewery makes two beers and they have both on tap. Much better than anything else in Costa Rica, plus it's on tap. They have them at Harry's Bar Poas too. Finally a beer down here that I actually love to drink! Pura Vida!!

Are you going to go the Residency route? Somehow I see it as a real commitment vs the 90 day deal where someone has the option of bailing out.

Going to stay a turista for the first six months. That's my tipping point. If I stay that long and I'm still liking it, going to explore residency options and buy transportation.

Apartment hunt fell apart - all the listings we contacted were already rented. It appears that the listings you find online go fast. So today and tomorrow, we're going to focus on neighborhoods in San Pedro that I like and go guerilla style. Just drive around and look for Se Alquila signs (for rent), contact the owners, and they will usually show up in 30-45 minutes.

The guy I hired to help me with the search made it a lot easier. He told me for about $150 a month I can rent all my furniture, and that opens up my search if I don't have to find a fully furnished place. Plus that way I don't have to put up with the rather low-grade furniture most furnished places have.

I have always wondered where the expression "grow a pair" originated from. If your a man and have testicles you will know that this is by far the most sensitive part of your body. Anyone who has taken a kick or low punch to this area is probably cringing just reading this.

The expression should really be "grow a vagina". Now that shit can take a pounding for hours and be ready for more the next day!

Had to give up on my apartment guy. He no showed me three times in a row. So I'm going another route.

My niece is here right now so I'm showing her around Costa Rica. We went to Arenal Monday and Tuesday and stayed at Baldi Hot Springs. It was a mixed bag - hot water was iffy, and wifi was out the whole time we were there. And drink and food prices were at the same level as some top-end American resorts I've stayed at.

But the hot springs were great, and we had a good time at the spa. Room was very nice and we had a great view of the volcano. I would probably find another resort to stay at next time (wifi is damn important to me).

Going to Manuel Antonio next. Pops was our tour guide for the Arenal trip and will be again for the Manuel Antonio trip. He's a great guy and did a great job!

This shows something not talked about much here: Brother Pops is an all-CR tour guide, not just SJO nightlife--especially important for us Spanish-challenged types to know.

So after my trip to Mercado Central, I found some hot peppers. They guy at the booth said they were too hot to eat. I said great, give me cuarto kilo (about a half pound).

Not knowing how powerful they were, I chopped up nine of these little red peppers in a big pot of beans. They ended up being too spicy to eat, and that's a rare statement for me.

I guess they are in the habanero family as they are as strong as habaneros. I made another big pot of beans and chopped up three. That was the sweet spot, it was damn spicy but did not have me hiccuping and sweating and drinking milk.

So next time I will get 100 grams and I think that will be good enough for a few weeks. But still, I finally found a hot pepper down here! Joy!
