Here's what really pisses me off.
Take away the disastrous last 4 years and you can see the damage that corksoaker bill callahan did to the NU program.

Osborne...1993-1997...60-3 (255-49-3 overall)
Solich.......1998-2003...49-19
Callahan..2004-2007...27-22

22 losses in 4 years???

Nice work, ID. Can't believe the numbers came out that nicely. Not to mention the talent that has gone on to play in the NFL after a stop in the Gables. But the 'Canes are in a rebuilding mode, and that matchup in Gainesville may not be pretty. Then again, it has been some time since we lost to those jort wearing hooligans.

In the past ten years only two Florida teams in top ten:

Miami at # 7

Florida #10

The last five years no Florida teams in the top 10, and only one in the top 20 with Florida at # 17!!!

It doesn't look like the power is currently residing in Florida! The memories of the nineties must be wonderful though.

Using a numerical award of 10 points for #1 down to 1 point for #10 by conference, the past ten years breaks down as:

1. Big 12 Texas (#2)/Oklahoma (#3) 17 points
2. Atlantic Coast Virginia Tech (#5)/Miami (#7) 10 points
3. WAC Boise State (#1) 10 points
4. Big Ten Ohio State (#4)/Michigan (#9) 9 points
5. Southeastern Georgia (#6)/Florida (#10) 6 points
6. Pac 10 Southern California # 8 3 points

Looks like the Big 12 has been running hot for the last ten years. The ranking for WAC & Boise State, who plays a weaker schedule is skewed somewhat, although remember the Oklahoma game. Unfortunately for us on the left coast, the Pac 10 sucks, other than Southern California.

Yea the talent that is recognized by the NFL. A first round selection for 14 consecutive years. (94-07) and still counting. Runner up Oklahoma with 6. Not to mention that over the past 25 years the NCAA championship trophy has found its way to Coral Gables 20% of the time. Not all that from a big state public university but rather a small private school, pretty amazing.

Luck4unme- I don't really care for your helmets (I know... YMMV) but I do think your school has the best fight song in the business.

Well, OK, I have to admit we did better against the "acorns" during the leather helmet days..........which was what?............the first 100 years of the rivalry?.

I think all University of Miami fans will always have a great deal of respect and admiration for Coach Osborne.

The 1983 national championship was decided in the Orange Bowl when #5 UM met #1 Nebraska. At the end of the game Nebraska scored a touchdown to make it a 31 - 30 game in favor of the Canes. If Nebraska kicks the extra point they leave with a tie and the national championship. But Osborne, knows that if he goes for two they blow the national championship if it is unsuccessful. He goes for two it is unsuccessful and the University of Miami wins the national championship and starts a reign as a national power after having been a doormat for many many years.

I doubt there are many coaches out there, at that time, who would have taken that risk and displayed the sportsmanship to say we either win it or lose it but we will not settle for a tie. I doubt there is a single one out there today.

Easy on that conference power point thing you put together there Santas. I am a little wary of any ranking system that has the SEC 4th (I am not an SEC fan by the way)...but their schedules are straight brutal. No other conference can boast the road opponents the SEC does.

The Big 12 benefitted from Missouri and Kansas last year...no way THAT happens again this year.

The ACC is only going to be at the top when FSU and Miami are.

The Big Ten..ehh..can the conference as a whole be that good if the same damn team wins it every year?? OSU is great, but their entire schedule isn't exactly murderers row.

The PAC 10...maybe the most exciting to watch...but it is hard to take those teams seriously when they don't play defense USC being the exception of course.

That might have true a few years ago. The ACC accomplished exactly what they wanted to do when they added FSU and Miami, which led to the bringing in of Boston College and Virginia Tech, to wean themselves away from being a basketball only conference.

Now they have schools like , Clemson, FSU, Miami and Virginia Tech who can field championship caliber teams. Boston College, Georgia Tech and Virginia are improving dramatically and are not far from being perennial contenders.
