Unless you need something pressed or dry cleaned, hotel laundries are often too expensive.

I found a good laundry about two blocks south of the Hotel Presidente. It's located immediately across the street from la Iglesia de la Soledad (the Soledad Church).

The name of the laundry is Drycleani Lavanderia Camila; 600 colones/kilo for wash/dry/fold. The service is very good; I got 4 kilos of clothes done in one day, dropping the clothes off at around 10:00 a.m. and retrieving the clean clothes at 4:30 p.m.

From the Presidente: From the front door, turn right and go to the corner. If you were going to the Blue marlin, here's where you'd turn left.

Head south on calle 9 for two blocks; the laundry will be on your right (west side of the street).

Would be cool to put this on the "MAP"...this is an important service especially for all those that stay a good amount of time.

Did you get a picture for Prolijo ??

YO Ciego:

Yea, that laundry has fairly good service and attendants are friendly. But here's the plan: Laundry the Circus way.

Pack a roll of cord and a dozen clothespins prior to your trip. Reserve an interior room that backs up to the atrium with the fan vents. When you get to the room crawl out the sliding window and attach one end under the tiles on the opposite site and the other end to ledge at top of window. Wash your jocks, socks and shorts in the sink....ring the water out and hang out to dry on the line. WALLA. Since I only take two pair of jocks and socks and one pair of shorts....no problema. I also hang my condom out there to dry after washing it. Ciego, tip the room maid a buck and she will assist......may even help blowdry.

Just another travel tip from an old CR frugal traveler. Hope this helps.

Dark,

As I am blind, my photography isn't real good. :) But yes, I agree that this could be an addition to Prolijo's map, Get Rhythm's map nad even Lump's map.

There are other laundries within six blocks of the Presidente; look in the Pageinas Amarillas (Yellow Pages) under "Lavanderias." The Sixaola laundry has been discussed in a couple past threads, but the Dryclean Lavanderia Camila has not, as far as I know yet been mentioned here. Funny, as it's within a very short stroll from the Gulch.

Now to address the esteemed Circus' comments. Can you really imagine my fat blind ass crawling out a window?

I'd probably end up hanging myself of the maid with the clothesline and scattering my socks and underwear all over c. 9. And unlike you, I can't reuse my condoms. The "Mister Mini-micro-mite" brand condoms I use are only good for 1/2 use...after that, they're useless. I have tried cutting the pinky finger from a X=-small Playtex glove to use as a substitute, but it keeps falling off. Although Playtex gloves are so flexible, I can pick up a dime.

BTW, got a print of that photo in front of the Presidente. PM me if you'd like a real print versus the digital...and hey Twarag, everyone tells me the pic is awesome and that you're a fine photographer, even if you were half drunk and sticky-dicked at the time.

Keep it clean in San Jose gents. The chicas simply adore a guy whose underwear lacks bacon strips and/or rear admiral stripes.

Very close to there was a great place to get your laundry done. Arte y Sauna used to take in laundry and get it back to you quicker than the times you mentioned or the time it takes at the Sixaola laundry in the same neighborhood. Artes also had other advantages, being a massage parlor of some repute.

Man , you are a piece of work, fellow photog! :D :D Anyway, thanks El Ciego for the tip. I have a two week trip upcoming, and was wondering about laundry as well.

I'm still waiting for a picture of the Sixaola. I've got that one on the map already. It just isn't labeled. I'm still a little confused about the location of this latest lavanderia. Across from the Iglesia is a little plaza and on the other side of that extends Ave. 4. Is this place on the north or south side of Ave. 4?

Prolijo,

I believe it's south of Av. 4...but not sure. If you can find the front entrance of the church, you can find the lavanderia.

Well, I can't find it from my home office  . If someone down there can check it out and either PM me or add to this thread I'll add it to the next edition of my map. I'll put it on the south side of Ave 4 for now. BTW, I already know about misplaced icons for Bakea and Nuestra Tierra and will also get those corrected on the next version. If anyone has spotted any others please let me know.

I would love somebody to try the idea of a laundry/MP again. I bet it would do well in the gulch. A&S did a pretty good business for 17 years, before they got a little too visible by advertising in the ICE pamphlet.

How about another Peluqueria Bikini? Unfortunately, it closed before I even heard of it but that gave a whole new meaning to "shave and a haircut"

The laundry is on the west side of Calle 9 about 25 mtrs south of Ave 2. I have used their services for a long time...they are very reasonable and dependable.

Don Gordo, thanks. I stand erected...er, corrected.

The lavanderia Camila is north of Av. 4, on the west side as D.G. said. And yes, I used them for two separate loads (clothes, you perverts!) and the clothes were returned to me clean, folded and bagged...even the socks were sorted properly. As another poster mentioned above, the staff is friendly and can fake some English for the non-Spanish speakers among us. Good place.

BTW, I would like to see (in quotes) a map overlay or list of other services: laundries, barbershops, manicurists, therapeutic massage places and the like.

A wonderful new device combining a GPS and palmtop computer has been developed for the blind. City map ROM cards are currently available for San Jose; the system is user-programmable...perhaps I'll develop the first GPS-driven monger map, for use with this system.

It's really handy to know where lifestyle support businesses are located. This is why I so appreciate Prolijo's efforts and those of others who have compiled address and phone lists, collected business cards, taken photos and helped develop maps and databases. The more accurate location information I have in advance, the safer and easier are my walks around San Jose. This kind of information is absolutely essential for a blind traveler such as I; thanks for all good info.
