Diegoc, Pacman and several others make the most sense. I don't like people that want to regulate my behavior.
Not only that it doesnt work. Perhaps the OP is just ashamed of what he does and hides it?, others not so ashamed. No offense directed.
While I certainly follow the be polite, I'm a guest philosophy, in general, I dont feel I have to meet any particular Tico standard or nceessarily master their language.
I find thinking that you KNOW what others feel and think can also be a fairly non-productive expenditure. While you are noticing the 3 Ticos who have expressions that indicate displeasure with the old dude at the table with the young gal, you miss the other 5 quiet people noticing you sitting alone an thinking: at least the old man and girl are human if not goofy, but look at the wierdo by himself, do you think he was punking one of our little boys last night and then kicked him to the curb?
The bottom line is that there is a backlash that is brewing in Costa Rica.
I believe that there is a growing sense in Costa Rica that "we have gotten what we want out of the Gringos (and Nicas and Colombians) and now we don't need them and it is time to reclaim our country for ourselves".
There is a better than even chance that the current Vice President (a woman) will win the election after Aris is gone she is going to push hard to make prostitution illegal. The proposed immigration law is going to make it much more difficult for Gringos to gain residency in Costa Rica, in fact many current residents will be forced to leave.
It is true that Americas do not have a monopoly on ugly behavior. Shesh, no one mentioned the Germans, they certainly have their share too. But that is besides the point.
The truth is, Costa Rica allows for a great deal more freedom and personal liberty than what we have in the US. What I don't understand is why so many of us feel like they have the right to abuse the privilege of the liberty that you are given here.
It does not take that much effort to be discrete with your puta. That is all they ask, that is all they expect. Is that too much to ask for?
