I have an IPhone 4s under contract with AT&T. I know they won't unlock it, but there are various vendors on Ebay selling unlock codes for like $30. Will that work?

i'd strongly advise against this - unless you're tech savvy. there are also a plethora of web pages which can also prompt you through the process.

better to do a local city search and find somebody who can perform the unlock/ jailbreak while you wait. process takes but 15 minutes depending upon data speed transfers.

Better to pay termination fee. Go on the prepaid card. $55.00 per month then unlimited call, text and 2 gb of data. This will be far cheaper in the long run.

When I used the link I posted, I received an email back saying that my iPhone could not be unlocked because I hadn't completed my contract (which I had). I called AT&T back and the next agent I spoke with unlocked it for me while I was on the phone with her.

I restored my iPhone 4 before I left thinking I would need to do it again once the Kolbi sim was installed. Not necessary, the chica at the Kolbi booth in baggage claim installed the sim and it worked immediately! Nice to have a local number while I'm here.

Thanks to San Te for answering all my stupid questions via PM.

ATT customer service is the worst, have wasted so much time dealing with them this year. Requested an unlock and got an email saying NO because my phone was reported lost or stolen. WTF called and told them I bought it from ATT and it has never left my possession, after 30 minutes "um oops that looks right sir...it should now be unlocked." Not surprised they screwed up but surprised they unlocked it before my 2 yr. contract ends in Jan.

I've been round and round like many. Finally got two of them unlocked via at&t, but on both a 3gs and a 3g, I did have to re-synch with my CR Kolbi sim. Go figure--you didn't, I did. I don't think it would have to be a Kolbi sim, but it can't be an at&t sim, that I learned the hard way. The AT&T dopes don't tell you that in their unlock email, it just says insert a Sim, so natch I inserted my at&t sim. Maybe I am stupid but how much effort would that have taken to put in the unlock email to not use an att sim card.

If anyone needs their Iphone unlocked here in Ticalandia, p.m. me and I will give you Diego's info. He's a Korean guy who lives in Rhomoser. He unlocks it while you wait for about 10 mil. I use to sell a lot of iphones and he has unlocked many for me. The best in C.R.
Also, if you have a low price phone to sell, p.m. me and maybe I'll buy it. I loan it out for free to my guys coming down to use while they are here. Thanks
