Hi Folks,
I've got some very good info. from this board - now another question:

I want to leave on a Monday from S.J. to Fortuna; thinking about taking a bus from Coca -Cola bus terminal or one of the private Shuttle service. What is the pro and con, besides the price? And is it worth it? I stay at the Castillo, is it wise to go there or Taxi in the morning around 9AM? And how much would a indepent service charge?
Planning to stay at the Arenal Loge or Hotel Vista Arenal or any other good input?
Thanks a lot
Duessel

What is your budget and tolerance for time?
I understand public bus is about $12 each way.
Interbus will pick you up at your hotel and is about $40 each way per person.. May make several hotel stops after yours.
Private van (the choice I have taken) will run about $120-140 for your entire party each way and is non stop and direct to your destination.
Others may have different experiences to share.

I have used the bus on occasion to travel around Costa Rica. I normally have a girlfriend as my translator due to language barrier. I have had no problems on the bus and it is very reasonable. I have also noticed the girls do not mind using the bus because it is a way of life for them.

For me Interbus would be the option. Pretty good cost alternative to a private transport.

Also, check out Los Lagos as a hotel option. Onsite spa and springs is nice if you don't have a car with you to travel to Baldi or Tabacon. Restaurant on property was pretty good too. Haven't checked lately, but price is somewhere around $100-110/ night with buffet breakfast?

Just asking, but are you sure about the public bus being $12 each way - sounds expensive, as most buses in CR are very reasonable - I think more like $3 or so each way - but I could be wrong :)

I would not swear to that cost. It seems that I read it somewhere but I did not verify. I do know the public bus is by far the least expensive option.

Here's the Website. Nice looking property and a hard-to-beat location: http://www.hotelloslagos.com/
