I have a friend coming down who is looking for a hotel with good WIFI. He is considering the Del Rey and the Morazan, but I am sure there are also other options. Anybody care to offer a suggestion or two. WIFI is the biggest consideration for him, as he plans to do some work while here. Thanks.

Sportsman's Lodge has good reliable WiFi in common areas and in most rooms. La Armistad does not - reliable only in the common areas.

Does anyone have any intel on the WifFi at the Dunn Inn?

READ my recent posts (mid-December). If you're using a MAC STAY OUT of the Mansion rooms at SL until their equipment is upgraded. There is NO/Very Poor Wi-Fi in that area--ESPECIALLY in Oso Grande.

The statement above has NOT been my experience and I have stayed at Amistad many, many times since the last quarter of 2007. Too, I make it my business to check their connection to the net throughout the entire facility for "business purposes".

WiFi at Amistad has always been superior in all sectors of the hotel with, easily, 3megs down and 1meg up. That is, again, ALL sectors of the hotel. Additionally, why use WiFi when you can use a CAT5 cable at Amistad in your room? All rooms are hard wired for a CAT5 and the hotel will provide you with the cable if you don't travel with your own.

To run a "speed test" suggest you utilize http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest (Select the Atlanta or Dallas server)

http://www.speedtest.net/ will provide a server in San Jose and "document" a blistering speed. Unreliable in my view.

Every time that I have stayed at Amistad, the wifi has been very spotty and at times did not work in my room.

HDR wifi works ok. You can hardwire it also if you ask the front desk for a wire.

I've stayed at La Amistad three times now and never had a problem with the WiFi. It's actually pretty good (much better then what I experienced at HDR). I was even able to log into an online game I sometimes play and it handled it ok. Also, there's no annoying filters or proxy's to deal with (that I have seen) I could use FTP and access websites that I run no problem. There may be some dead areas on the top floors. I stayed once on the second floor and twice on the first floor (106 suite and 108 regular room). Always had 4 bars in the rooms and 5 bars when I was in the common area while the maid was doing my room. In HDR I think you have to plug in to the phones with a LAN cable. I remember they changed their passwords a lot and the speed was crap.

The wireless password at HDR is a pain in the ass. It changed everyday. Thats why I just went with the hardwire. I stay at SL now.
