The problem for the airlines is per flight there is very little money made.A good example from CNBC was a flight on American Airlines from New York to Los Angeles. A full flight with extra cargo, an ideal situation, netted the airline a great big $200 profit. The rest of the money generated went to fuel, labor, aircraft maintenance and local taxes and gate fees at both airports. They really are working that hard for that little money.I have been in the transportation business in one capacity or another for several years and the margins are getting worse and worse each day with rising fuel and maintenance costs.Does not matter if it is an airline, bus company or a trucking outfit.
