All of this leads up to the question........What's the reason for it? Is it something with the culture? Having a clean, well stocked restroom with a toilet seat is not that difficult or expensive. I've heard gringa eco-tourists comment that they had to "hover" over the toilet. Yes, in all fairness we've seen some bad ones in the U.S. as well, but in general, the good businesses and franchises make a genuine effort to address this issue......the customers expect it. It's good business sense that's not difficult to comprehend.

The Holiday Inn has a nice bathroom on the mezzanine level. Good place to pop in for a quiet dump if you're walking in the general vicinity.

Laugh about this topic if you want to, but this is the kind of street-level, hard-hitting, useful information you'll find nowhere else! Granted, finding a clean place to take a dump may not be as important as say, who gives the best BBBJ, or where one can find a good hamburger...but in my opinion this information is gold. The hand dryer in the men's room at Princessa Marina in Sabana has got to be the STRONGEST I've ever seen. You could blow-dry your shirt with that thing.

After spending 15 months in Turkey it will take a lot for anything in Costa Rica to be worse.

Imagine attending a Christmas dinner in one of the nicest restaurants in a city of 300,000 with waiter and 2 assistants just for our party of 18. The restroom had no toilet, only a bomb-chute (hole in the floor) in what looked like a shower stall, a water hose and a roll of toilet paper mounted about 8 inches off the floor.

At least there was a K*D waiting for you when you finished to pour you a handful of lemon water to give you that "fresh" feeling.

Then there was the CONCRETE wall in the open-air toilet that you pissed on at the bus stop downtown (temps to 90+ degrees). That thing must have been 50 years old just absorbing urine.
Mmmm, 21 years later and I can still smell it.

As for chicas straddling toilets, I've know girls in the US that do that. Have any of you ever been in a women's restroom in a bar? Disgusting. Makes the guy's room very good by comparison.

Anyone remember the restroom in the old Happy Days?? Hole in the floor and no privacy door. Slightly partitioned off so as the others in the bar couldn't get a direct view. I agree the cleanest is the Colonial.

Yes I remember that was many terds ago & it was small also. I would just go back to KL to take care of business.

France surprised me since they had unisex bath rooms. At least they were clean.

Bar Monaco has one of the cleanest restrooms that I have seen in Costa Rica. It was amazing to find that kind of cleanliness in the zona roja.

Try Castros Bar after midnight Saturday night. The amazing thing is that they have a little hottie cleaning up the mess in there with the guys just ignoring her.

I vote for the Colonial, the Holiday Inn, and the Hotel Heradurra as the nicest. For the nastiest, well, the Beatle Bar and Disco La Central in Jaco
are both pretty bad. One time at the Disco La Central, I went to the bathroom around 1:30 in the morning and the place was full of blood.
I guess a couple of guys had a knife fight. The place was really crowded
at the time.

I had just lost a lot of money at the Colonial ... so for revenge I shit in one of there sinks.I also shot a load all over the soap dispenser at the
HDR. I suffer from pme....enjoy.

This is a very informative post site. At my age, a good shit is almost as important as a good screw. As far as the shitters at the Depelous, I can only remember the dittys I used to write on the walls in Europe as a young man when I found a shitter to be extremely gross.
