On a budget this trip... suggestions?

I'd say, just go with the flow. Once you get there, you'll find plenty to do. Take things as they come. Sometimes, the most spontaneous things are the best.
Just have Fun.

Ok, here's a couple:
1. Buy a cheap spanish lesson book, take her to the park just north of the Del Rey on a nice day, spend some time with her leafing thru the book and learning a little more espanol.
2. Take her to the Central Market. Look around, have lunch and just hang out.
3. Take them to a movie: Right now Ice Age 2 is out down here and the K*ds love it.
4. Take a walk
5. Go to the musemes / the gold one under plaza cultural or the National museme up 2nd ave ( about 4 blocks east of the DR).
6. Go to San Pedro mall and stroll around window shopping.
7. Take the coffee tour / about half a day includes lunch and very educational.
8. Hope for rain and spend time in your room for an afternoon delight!
