My friend and I plan on visiting CR this summer for two weeks. How much money do you think we'll need to enjoy ourselves? Also, we would like to rent an apartment rather than staying in a hotel. Is this a good or bad idea?

I understand at times it is harder to get the chicas to go back to an apartment.

From personal experience, I will never do that again. The negatives outweight the positives. Many of the girls do not go to private houses/apts. Safety is their biggest concern. Distance from the gulch is another as time is money. If you hook up with somebody and go to one of the short stay motels near Del Rey and she gets to know you a little, then she'd probably be more likely to come to your apt for future sessions, if it's not too far.

My friend and I rented a house for 10 days last June. Let me give you the pros and the cons:

Pros
-privacy, no dress code
-less noisy, outside of the bedroom
-cheaper (it better be)

Cons
-some chicas (40%?) won't go to a private residence, Xman is correct
-distance from gulch
-pics can be deceiving, the place could be a real mess (like ours was :x ), make sure you see it in person before you pay
-no maid service, clean sheets/towels are your responsibility, make sure it has on-site laundry if you're going to do this

If you have any specific questions, PM me.

Your best bet is to book a couple of rooms at Hotel Castillo, very affordable at $35 a night with tax and breakfast included. especially if you plan on staying for two weeks in the land of good and plenty.

The staff is great. You could not ask for a better location; one block from NF, two blocks to ZB, three blocks two SL and a nice walk to HDR.

Feel free to spend as much as you want, but remember no cien for an hour. It's okay for TLN and/or two hours... but if you can't help yourself and must have "that" chica, then who cares it's only money and you only live once.

Enyoy.

There are a couple of apartment that are close to the gulch and have been used by mongers for years without any problem having chicas come back to them. Two that come to mind are

Apartments Scotland and Sudamer Apartments.

The legendary Don Gordo has been staying at the Sudamer Apartments on his past few trips and I find it inconceivable that he would stay at a place the chicas would not come and visit.

Are you sure that it's not just the fact that ALL of the chicas know the legend?

Well that is certainly a possibility :D However I know other mongers who stay there with no problem having girls come over. Sudamer is located about a block away from Idem and Tin Jo so is closer to the DR then a few hotels that guys have stayed in with no problem getting chicas to go to (Best Western, Marriott, etc.)

The only thing you have to be careful of being sure to take a taxi after dark.

I agree. DG is pretty well known. If a newbie tries it, I'd be willing to bet the chicas would react a little differently.

Orange I think you are confusing your experience with what we are discussing here.

You were talking about a house you rented some 40 minutes or so from the gulch.

Apartments in or near the gulch are 5 minutes from the HDR

Chicas never heard of the place you rented

Scotland and Sudamer are well known

Do not think you can use your experience renting a place above Heredia with renting an apartment in San Jose.

Clearly, you missed my point. Obviously, the proximity from the gulch was a big factor working against us. But go back and re-read my first post in this thread and you will see that the main point that I was trying to make is that the biggest negative with being in a private residence is that a lot of chicas aren't willing to go to them AT ALL, whether they be don't the street from the DR or in 40 miles away.

The conversation usually went, "where you staying?" and once we said in a house, that's pretty much where it ended for about half the chicas. The location didn't even come up most of the time.

Afraid I will have to disagree with Orange and go with Irish Drifter's remarks. On the advice of Don Gordo I stayed at the Sudamer for a month last year and wouldn't have traded it for the Presidential Suite at El Presidente.

Irish Drifter writes:

The Sudamer is exactly seven blocks south of El Presidente, and less than 10 min by cab from anyplace in the gulch. Plus you have Idem, and Tin Jo nearby, and the very popular Pantera Rosa is also close by.

Last year I had at least 12 women join me at my apartment, including 2 non-pros that I only knew through corresspondence. I never had one chica at the BM tell me she wouldn't go there. They were all well aware of the apartments and the excellent security there, and there is no doubt they felt more comfortable there than say a lovely session at Hotel Johnson.

It all comes down to how long you are staying. I'm down there for a whole month so it is both economical in price and convenience, and I can do my own cooking if I don't feel like going out. A month in even the best of hotels would get a little clastrophobic after a time.

If you are there for only a week, then a hotel is probably best.

But remember our motto here in camp: IT'S ALL GOOD......:-)

Pura vida
