I did a search but nothing much about price came up. I know cameras and electronics are more expensive.. I would like to stock up on some lenses if mine are available down there and cheaper than US.

Thanks.

Generally speaking anything that is imported into CR is much more expensive than in the USA.

My contacts were 75$ for 3 pairs in CR and 45$ on the internet. I have an account with aero casillas and got 4 boxes delivered to CR for 45$ each plus 8 shipping. And no excise fees

That very interesting because regular glasses are very inexpensive in CR. Just a little over a year ago I had an exam (same computer equipment they used in the US) and a pair of glasses, frame and lenses, made in San Jose for $18.00.

Hola
I have just returned from being in SJ for 5 weeks and bought both contacts and glasses. My contacts here cost about $20 for a box of 6 at the Walmart with the prescription being about $80 which lasts a year. In CR I go to Munkel Optical which is a chain with a bunch of stores around SJ and contacts were $18 for the same box of 6 and the prescrition is only $4. Yes, only $4 for a prescription using the same machines we have here. So, we are paying about 20 times CR prices so I always stock up for about a years worth of lenses in order to avoid US prices. It took 5 days to order. My glasses were $80 using the same prescription and if memory serves the last time I bought glasses in the US they would not use the same prescription as the contacts and I had to pay more. As an added bonus all the employees in the munkel optical were cute babes and I asked one out but she said she had a novio. Too bad,, she was a cutie,, next year!! Junkyard dog

Two months ago I went to Optica Blanco for contacts, for the docs appointment, 6 pairs of disposable contacts, eye drops, contact rinse and a plastic container for contacts, all for 35,000 colones or $70.

Contacts are more expensive in CR.

About 2 weeks ago, I went to Opticas Vision (off Avenida Central) and got 1 box (6 pairs) of Acuvue2, which are cheaper than the regular Acuvue in the US) and paid 14,000¢ ($27). I pay $16/box for regular Acuvues here through my local optometrist.

The eye exam was only 3,000¢ though. I pay $60-70 for an exam here.

Zman you make a good point.I would think the premium products like Acuvue Oasys and Focus night and day would be more expensive in CR but the regular disposable lenses should be a little less.(Depends on the brand) The premium lenses are made of silicon and are much healthier for the eyes.(allows much more oxygen through the polymer)Your real savings will be on the exam.If your not paying much for the exam you really should try the better products.(more comfortable as well)

I also bought my contact lenses from walmart but without any prescription
Do I need to talk to my doctor before using it.

Contacts are more expensive in CR, but exams are a fraction of what they cost in the US. The eye exam in CR is like 3,000 ($6) for glasses and 5,000 ($10) for contacts. In the US, an exam for glasses is minimum $50 and contacts is about $75.
