I may go to manuel antonio with a gringa friend in March for 3-4 days. Can anyone recommend a nice hotel in the 100-150/night price range?

you will not be disappointed with any of these three, they come highly recommended. I personally have stayed at the Parador! These will definitely impress a normal gringa! Maybe a little higher in price that you wanted.

The Parador and Si Como No are well over $150 (over $200) that time of year, but I believe the Mariposa is around $150 per night. I've never stayed at the Mariposa, but have heard from many people that it's quite nice.

$100-150 per night is MID-priced by you Maybe for MA. That's reason enough in my book to consider other beaches. That said its still possibly to find perfectly acceptable hotels in the MA area for less than $100 - even by gringa standards and even during the high season. The Verdemar Hotel that GG suggested looks decent enough and their rooms start at only $75/nt. A place I've stayed that I was very pleased with is the Villa Nicholas which has rooms starting at only $95/nt during the high season http://www.villasnicolas.com. And another reasonably priced place that is supposed to be very nice (and extremely eco-friendly) is the Mono Azul http://hotelmonoazul.com with rooms in the $60-80 range

Prolijo beat me to the punch, I was about to mention Mono Azul. Nothing fancy but the times I've stayed there it was nice. Good food too, but it has been like 3 years. Another thing this site is good for! I'm researching hotels to have a couple in each price range all over Costa Rica and all I have to do is search here and there it is. Thanks again CRT.

GT, hvae you checked the website for the Mariposa for this time of year? They want big money, that is why idid not mention it.

You can always email them or call them for their best rates. This is high season and I do not know how much they budge as popular as Costa Rica has become for the eco-traveler.

Just a recommendation to STAY AWAY from this hotel. It is priced very reasonably and the staff speaks English, but the quality of both the service and the accommodations leave much to be desired.

It is owned by a gringo who is rarely in residence and with an attitude that is definitely a turn off. It's just across the street from El Avion resturant which is definitely highly recommended for atmosphere and food. Great place to watch the sun go down.

The Costa Verde is adjacent to the Banana Tree and while I was never inside, looked very nice. Don't worry about any hotel being close to the beaches. Taxistas are cheap and there are buses which run up and down the beach to all hotels every 20-30 minutes.

Adventures Paridiso is a CRT sponsor and has one of the best ATV rides in the country. BOOK DIRECTLY thru them and not the hotels and save 20%. Also highly recommended the mangroove river tours operating out of Las Damas Isla. Again, BOOK DIRECTLY and not thru the hotels to get a discount.

Beach #3 in Manuel Antonio park is one of the finest swimming beachs in Costa Rica. Lots of animal life and most importantly, no rip tides to contend with. It's less than 1/2 mile from the park entrance and an easy flat walk.

I stayed at the Hotel Karahe. About $80 per night, private beach, 5-10 minute walk to the park. Has air conditioning and a friendly staff. Visited everyday by large groups of monkeys. Restaraunt is very good as well. Get a room on the beach side, 2nd floor.

Many hotels in the area are in the highlands (cliffs) with nice views, however, it's a long uphill and downhill walk to the beach and usually come with higher prices.

I was in MA last March and stayed in the Hotel Costa Verde. This is a decent hotel with two pretty good restaurants in what I consider the mid-price range for Costa Rica. As with most hotels in MA, there is no actual access to the beach. The bus or taxis are cheap and readily available.

In three weeks I will be back in MA at the Hotel Verde Mar. This hotel reportedly has actual beach acess. I will write a review when I return.

It has been my experience that a reservation can be difficult at times in the high season. Try to make your reservations early.

check out hotel mimos website.. about 3 miles from the beach. italian owned, nice italian restaurant. $65/night for a single. $85 for a jr. suite. will be staying there again later this month. check them out.

I will throw my 2 cents in the discussion.

I have only stayed at Hotel Parador and Costa Verde. Took my favorita to both.

I enjoyed both hotels.

Hotel Parador is however much more expensive. Hotel service is excellent. One drawback is it's location at the end of a bumpy gravel/dirt road. Thus it makes cab rides more expensive.

Costa Verde is nice and within your price range. It is centrally located for the area, has a nice pool, and restaurant with good food and tons of monkeys running around.

I would personally stay at Costa Verde again if rooms where available there.

I second this. Nicer hotels up the hill as mentioned, but all are a taxi or bus ride to the beach. Hotel Verde Mar is another choice, maybe 1/4 mile south of Karahe. Not quite as nice as the beach rooms at Karahe, but have little kitchenettes which is great to have for beer and snacks and coffee in the a.m. and is also right on the beach. Very few others right on the beach, I know only two others, and none of them recommended, both cabina types, both kinda dumpy. If u don't mind dicking around to get to the beach, Costa Verde and the others mentioned were all very good suggestions. But, I love that instant access to the beach, and being able to go back in for a beer in your a/c room, or go to the john--not any potties very convenient once you're on the beach.

Anyway, you will love it--my favorite place in the world.

Can anyone give me some suggestions based on the following.....
I'm looking to stay a couple of nights in mid-April , with a chica, near the beach and for under a c-note per night. TIA
