Not a golfer, but you or others might find this interesting.
There is a very persistent weather phenomenon in Central and South America called the "Veranillo de San Juan" (little summer of St John). This is a short period in the middle of the rainy season (Two weeks from late June to early July) when the afternoon downpours stop. The exact time varies, but closer to that window CR meteorological service (IMN) can pin it down with great accuracy. It is a good time for golf and a great time for river rafting and outdoor fun. The rivers and vegetation have recovered from the dry season. We haven't yet received the heaviest rains (September & October) so things aren't yet as waterlogged.
I expect this influenced the decision for the date of the SL tourney. IMO, if you can time it well this is the BEST time to visit.
