After my recent vaccination, I have been trying some new (to me) restaurants in San Jose. I found two that excel in quality, atmosphere, and price. Neither is cheap and neither cater to our clientele. I took a date to both, but a chica who looks and acts "classy". We felt welcome in both establishments.
Le Bistrot de Paris on Paseo Colon is near Oasis and serves top quality breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I've had both the American and French breakfasts along with the Croque Madam. At dinner I had the Duck Breast in Pepper Sauce. The atmosphere is casual, but a collared shirt and slacks are the norm. They do push their wine list a bit too much for my liking, but the food us that good. I first took a chica there for dinner, but have since returned 3 times for breakfast and to buy bread. They also have lunch specials, but I have not tried them.
Furca in Rohrmoser is now my favorite restaurant in Costa Rica. Dry aged beef, wide ranging and innovative cuisine. At bit expensive, but great for a special occasion. I have had the Raclette (shared), their signature salad (also shared), and the Chateaubriand with sides of a stuffed portobello and a grilled tomato. Also, good cocktails. The atmosphere is more upscale, but still casual.
