Stayed one night at the Taromina and booked thru Expedia. For $65 a night I though it was a great value. The room was large and the linens in the bed were very nice.

The Taormina has always been my go to place when I visit San José (I live on the Pacific coast), even going back to when it was the Mona Lisa before it was sold and renovated. Just booked for $85 on their website...$71 base rate + 13% room tax + $9 for breakfast. Hank: I suspect your $65 rate did not include the tax or breakfast fee? Still, $6 cheaper than the $71 base rate on their website. Website says 10% discount for booking on their site....we'll see if they apply the 10% when I check in and pay. Hank: I'll check out their Expedia prices next time, for sure. To me it's the best deal in the gulch even at $85 (I don't do the Morazan). Really nice big modern comfortable rooms, great linens, great beds and no chica fees. It's a 550 yd walk to the Sportmen's but I usually taxi from the Taormina 'cause I don't like climbing the hill. Walking back is cake (I still taxi back at night, though). Also, it's only 1 block up to the Little Havana. Wifi is solid everywhere and Reception is a comfortable place to do my internet/whatsapp stuff during the day. The bar usually has some action, but can be loud at night (open 3:00 pm - 4:00 am) and they have a bar menu. I dumped the place a few years back for some reason I don't remember but I never found a better deal anywhere else, especially for such a nice place. I'm certainly open for better deals if things have changed since I last checked the usual places.
