I'm flying in tomorrow and I'm probably going to bring a big stack of cash. Is it safe for me to travel like that? Where do you guys usually stash your cash?

When exactly are you landing and what color is your suitcase??

PS keep it on you not in your luggage.

As long as you have less than $10,000 you will have no problem carrying the cash on you. Never, ever put it in your checked luggage. When you get to the hotel put it in you room safe. When you go out, I recommend you only carry what you need for your activities.

Jade, if it is your first time in San Jose, it itis highly advised to pm Pops and do a tour with him. That will save you a lot of expense and hassles. Invaluable info.

Keep you cash on you. I use a fanny pack.
Since you are new and you have cash, phone and maybe laptop the best thing to do is take a taxi from the air port taxi service. They are located inside the terminal after baggage claim and customs. You will see their sign saying Airport taxi. It will cost you about $30 or so and you can pay in dollars or credit card so no need to exchange money till you get to your hotel and stash your valubles.
Better to be safe then sorry. I hope you arrive during the day. If not all the more reason to take the airport taxi rather than any taxi outside.

This is the funniest thing I read in weeks, thanks for making me spit my coffee on my keyboard.

Next time I see your handle, before reading, I'm putting my food and drinks down... :?

Keep it up!

Make sure you put it with your house/car keys and your prescription drugs.

Seriously if you are taking cash do not take more than 10,000.00 as you need to declare it and play 20 questions. Also, keep it on you or in a carry-on that you do not put in the overhead bin. Better yet leave most of it at home and use your debit card at Banco Nacional and pull out 300,000 a day if you need that much. Otherwise, you will need to go and exchange money and do not forget your passport when you go.

It wasn't a trick question. I actually ended up hiding the stacks of cash within my luggage somewhere and everything was secure. I also got in touch with Pops and everything worked out fine!

I generally secured all of my valuables in the safe and there was zeeeeero problems.

I did not carry more than 10k on me. I just felt it would have been weird to carry stacks on my persons.

I took 9500.00 with me the first time I was spending a month in CR but I was also going thru a divorce, so I did not want to have any sort of questions about my pulling money out of my account in a foreign country. I went thru security and had to hold the two wads of cash in my hands while being scanned and that was the only issue I had since I did not have more than 10k I was not worried. I would never put it in baggage though.

Envelope in carry on works fine for less than 10k.
