I'm coming down with buddy staying in San Jose for 4 days. I been Costa Rica 3x but never stayed in sj. What's the best place to stay? Should we rent a airb&b or hotel?

La Amistad with the all-inclusive option is one of the best in my opinion. When friends come down that is where I book them.

ditto for Hotel Castillo, their sister hotel. get the all inclusive plan for 10 dollars a day. best meal/drink plan going. i'll be at castillo 7-11 May.

i think they also have multiple bed rooms at HLH/whatever that corner is called now

Choices :

La Amistad as suggested, or it's sister hotel, Hotel Castillo, around the corner and down the street, both classy and nice, Castillo you avoid the train noise, food is available at either locale for either choice, about 3 blocks away from each other.

They have some rooms with big porches and magnificent views, you can smoke on those porches, supposedly verboten, but I hear nobody bothers you if you do.

Sportsmen's Lodge, all time favorite here for CRT members, nice mini version of HDR, with often a respectable contingent of chicas, good food, friendly atmosphere, easy to meet fellow mongers and gather recon and develop friendships. The owner Bill on premise, always accommodating, professional and personal.

Hotel Del Rey. You're in Grand Central Station, the belly of the beast, not for the timid or the wimps, chicas 24/7. Noisier area of town, although only about 5 blocks or so away from the other establishments, rougher area with mugs n thugs hassling and panhandling, but most harmless, ignore them. Here you can be hanging at the bar at 2, 3, 4 am, or wake up at 6 am and head downstairs, always chicas available. No need for hassles taking uber, walking or taking cabs late at night during the bewitching hour looking for lust, it's right in your face for the pickins'...

There's a smattering of lessor joints, but these are the best choices for the best fun times.

The top part, HLH, is now reasonably popular, small contingent of chicas, many good to excellent and a relaxed intimate atmosphere. Pick one and do her there, they have the rooms still available, or since they're a fusion of an independent chica bar and MP, you can squirrel one out of there to your pad. Also walk right in, the door is open, no gate, no buzzer, no guard.

They seem to lights out around 9pm, best times are from around 4pm to 7pm. I guess they still rent rooms, I don't see anyone staying there, but I only stick my head in a couple times a week.

The former great and loved Zona Blue, like the also former great and loved New Fantasy... my how the mighty have fallen...is now called Pension 506, it's a ghost town. I don't think that bar is used anymore.

You can walk into that area from HLH, it's like you morphed into the twilight zone, and you're walking through a dark dingy decaying remnant, not unlike the ancient ruins of Pompeii, of the glory that once was Zona Blue...your memories of multiple encounters, often with some of the greats, fading, are rekindled, if only for a brief spark of a moment as you pan the empty carcass of the fallen giant.

All the doors are shut, cobwebs abound, your mind is playing tricks on you. You hear the laughter, hear the clinking of glasses, the loud music, see the girls walking the johns into the rooms. Did I spot Karen? Christina? Chyna? Pamela? Vanessa the Nica????

Do you believe in ghosts? You might find them here. Did I just spot CD, strutting his shirtless self, not a pretty sight, with an Alfred E. Neuman grin and a chica on each arm, former BMOC, also fallen?

Do I hear someone softly singing in the distance.."Memories...of the wayyyy we were...."

Best to move on, head back upstairs to HLH, there's new memories to create. Melisa, Andrea, Valeria, etc...The more things change, the more they stay the same...

Sportsmens all the way. Great atmosphere, staff, and the girls are screened. Its the only place I stay in San Jose.
