First, $100 rooms and now $10 "fee". Go to Little Havana and get a comparable room for about $60 and no "fee".

I will confirm there is a $10 guest fee based on some conversations with a chica who works there on our side of the bar. That's not a deal breaker for staying there. The hotel has a lot to offer and the bar is open until 4am. Some of the girls I have met there are not really in the "business" and have a pretty classy lifestyle based on their whatsapp photos.

I used to stay there all the time. It started going downhill after it was sold to some ticos last year. They started to raise prices while getting rid of ammenities such as free coffee in the lobby, customer service went down hill as well, tried to exchange some dollars for colones they would not do it because one of bills had some small pen marks on them. I will be staying elswhere, airbnb, sportman or castillo

It's been owned by Ticos since it reopened.

And the truth is that any marked or worn US bill is worthless in Costa Rica - banks won't take them.

Never had a problem with us currency with marks, bends or slight tears at the bank in departures at sjo or the colonial and a better exchange rate at the colonial and this was just a couple of months ago.

Thats exactly what i did. Took my money and exchanged it at the colonial and had no problems even stayed and gambled there .When your exchanging a few hundred dollars to gamble with in the casino you would think they would want your business . Just bad customer service at taromina. I will spend my money elsewhere thank you.

I wasn't aware the Taormina sold "last year" (2017?).
So the American owners who gave it all the Italian names and remodeled it sold it? In any case, I've been staying there for 5 years or so. I live on the Pacific coast. I stayed at Taormina as recently as a month ago and I'm there again right now. I have never paid a guest fee at Toarmina (old Mona Lisa). I always book through their web site... $71 + 13% tax = $80 per night (cheapest rooms) including a nice breakfast, really nice rooms & lobby area and no chica fee. I still think it's the best deal in the gulch for a nice place, unless you want to stay in a dump like the Morazon. There's a friend of mine staying at the Dunn Inn... basically across the street from Taormina... $60 w/breakfast ...but I don't think they are chica friendly any more (??).
