I am thinking about going to SJ for the first time. Been reading about SL, Amistad and HDR. Kinda bummed out to hear about the upheaval surrounding HDR.

I am thinking about staying at either SL or Amistad for the convenience and because HDR seems up in the air.

In terms of time, I am thinking about 5 days 4 nights seems like 4 days 3 nights is too little time, 7 days 5 nights too long.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Good recommendations for places to get viagra/levitra? is bringing my own a bad idea?

I have been reading up mostly on the three above hotels, are there other spots to check out for chicas? Nightclubs and casinos sound a little sketchy

thanks for the help

Lol so 3 nights is too little but 5 nights is too much?
Maybe as a first timer you might be over thinking it just a bit
My first time I stayed at SL and it was great
Bill waved at me and it was like magic dust on my trip
A bunch of good guys stay there and all the places you want to visit you will find guys willing to take you there
Especially if you tell them its your first time there
Just book it and jump in feet first its a blast
No need to overthink

I always advise first timers to stay at HDR for the most mind blowing experience, it's still Grand Central Station, if you're coming soon, ignore the nonsense rumors, it's business as usual, I just stayed three nights and the place was jumping at night, maybe 70 hotties floating about and surprisingly not too many guests, it's a buyers market.

If you're into wild n crazy partying and being close to the girls 24/7, there's no other choice. If you go, get third floor or higher, window rooms, they have agonizing claustrophobic non window rooms! Depending on your budget, they have pricier rooms on higher floors with porches and great views!

If you prefer a quieter classier place away from the thuggery of downtown with excellent management and nicer rooms, great not overly expensive bar food, but still has chicas hanging around, just on a smaller scale and still close to HDR, SL would be my second choice. DO NOT let them trick you into any of the rooms around the bar, no privacy, dumpy, loud as hell, get rooms in one of the back areas.

Avoid Presidente and Dunn Inn, arrogant expensive places with piss poor management and no chicas allowed.

La Amistad, classy place, great food, no chicas on site but allowed to visit, lots of guys swear by this place, but I say NO for first timers, it's boring, when you're here check it out and it's a good choice for more experienced guys.

If you have prescription viagra already, bring it, but if you have to buy in the states at about $30 per hit, forget that, drug stores now have generic viagra, I got 4 for $16, no prescription needed. Little drug store on Avenida 1 about two blocks west of HDR on north (right) side, fat Asian guy named Kim runs it.

4 or 5 nights is enough, 3 not enough time for first timers, although once I got used to CR, I would shoot down for weekends, but I'm in S. Florida and it's cheap and fast to get there.

I've also been told Hotel Castillo has a good value package, not familiar with it but several guys I know love the place.

OK, my recommendation if it's your first trip and you want a wild n crazy time, Hotel Del Rey is your choice, ignore the nattering nabobs of negativity, nothing's going down soon, and you are surrounded by hot chicas 24/7, you can take the elevator down at 6:00am and there's hotties there sometimes, or late at night when it's jam packed and you don't want to go out late and you're lazy like me, pick one, up to your room you go.

Nothing's changing the next couple months, but if you're talking 6 months from now, who knows? You didn't say when you're coming.

Negatives are it's almost always loud after 6 or 7 pm, and it's in a thug hood and rooms are old school Howard Johnson/Motel 6 but they are big and clean, room service and maids are excellent, Del Mar restaurant is superb but pricey.

If you're a rube from a rural area, or an old fart who doesn't like noise and craziness you may not like the energetic aggressive wild n crazy scene. If you are young, argument over, go straight to HDR, ignore what anyone else is saying, we're all old farts and what appeals to many of us you will find excruciatingly boring.

Second choice SL, cleaner quieter neighborhood, superb management and numerous chicas there, just smaller venue than HDR. It's quieter and is the place of choice for a lot of more experienced guys who will gladly give you some pointers and maybe give you a tour and lots of advice.

Many of the other places are nice, but for a first timer it should be either of them, HDR and SL. I mean, you don't want a snooze fest and return to the states saying "but they had great food!!!"

Really?

Boring and a snooze fest?

I've never been bored at La Amistad and its sister hotel the Castillo. Actually, I've rarely been bored in San Jose (except back in the day when I was a 'good boy' and stayed at the Sleep Inn).

The bar at La Amistad is a great place to sit and network with other gringos, without a lot of extraneous bullshit, before you go chica hunting. The bar at the Castillo is also.

And since a person would be foolish to stay either place without the all-inclusive, that $10 more means your drinks are included.

And if there isn't anyone to chat with, then you sack up and head out and find something to un-bore you. Which you are going to take to your room anyway.

Any tips or recommendations about other casinos, clubs or restaurants that are fun even if not aimed at the mongerer?

Any casino in the gulch, Some more glamorous than others, but they will all gladly take your money. All within a 5 min walk of each other. Restaurants: Chubbs, La esquina de buenos aires, cafe del mundo, the Sodas, numerous other cafes.

The town is not aimed at the mongerer, so if you are not in an mp, SL, Or DR, your are likely to be among locals in any given restaurant

For viagra, hit up Russ's shop at the store just outside the Taormina, was $35 for 10 pills a few months ago for generic, works just as well. High school K*D was working the cash drawer, just tell him what you want

My point is this, La is a fabulous choice for many old pros who know their way around, but for a first timer since there are no parading chicas like HDR or SL, you have to go to either of these venues to participate in the party. They are coming to experience as much craziness as possible.

Keep in mind most connoisseurs of places like La are usually 40's and up, probably 50's and up, most of them, and it's a classy elegant place but quiet, and many old pros prefer that, but I still say first time visitors, especially if they're young, should go for the wild n crazy atmosphere of HDR or SL with the parading chicas.

Tommy himself responded to my post with " Thanks that is super helpful. I feel like what I need right about now is to see and have as crazy a time as i can manage."

My preference for a first timer is the mind blowing HDR, and if they don't know how to get around, it's work to seek out the various mp's, why not pick the low hanging fruit? if they've been running around all day and have had enough at night, they can hang in the lobby, pick a winner and elevator up to ecstasy without fighting taxis and headaches at night.

If HDR does collapse one day in the future, they can brag "I was there!!!"

Now many of the "older gentlemen" who come here don't care for the loud, raucous atmosphere of HDR, and the quieter classier places make good choices, but first timers should get their minds blown, then check out the other places to see if they want a more subdued atmosphere on later visits.

I'm still a grand central station guy, I love staying at HDR in spite of the loudness and thug-o-rama hood, I've been to the other places and yes, they are classier and quieter, but newbies generally don't want that unless they too are, ahem, "mature". I've also met numerous guys at the HDR and made friends and went out galavanting, so that option is there.

If you want quieter classier surroundings but still numerous chica options at night without leaving the hotel and advice from older pros, SL is the choice, but I will still say a newbie, especially if they are early 40's or younger will find the non chica hotels boring. :?

I hate to break it to you, but some of these young guys find us boring as well...
