just joined the CRT membership, seems like a good group of people. Don't know much about Costa Rica but I been reading up and learning a lot from what people posted here for the last few weeks.

I am a relatively young guy and was curious if anyone will be down at San Jose between Oct 21 to the 24th and wanna have a beer and show the new guy the ropes.

I will be in CR from Oct 11 until Nov 3. Unfortunately I will be in Jaco from the 20th to the 24th.

Just stop by at the sportsmens lodge in the afternoon and strike up a conversation with the guys at the bar. I'm sure they can get you pointed in the right direction.

Have a great trip.

Too funny, I have the same dates but I will be in the Arenal area from the 21st to 24th. I am sure our paths will cross during the stay, most likely at the Sportsman for the halloween party.

I'm relatively new to CR too. I'll have a beer with ya. I'll be at the SL for the 21th before I head to Jaco. Not to hard to notice me. I'll probably be the only Asian guy in the place haha

I will be there, staying at the SL from 10/20-10/25. I am one level above newbie (6 or 7 trips), which translates to - I know where all the cool places are, but I still pay Cien. Look forward to meeting y'all.

thanks for the replies guys. Funny, I am planning on heading to Jaco and Arenal but later on in the trip. Bakakomae/Mako113, maybe I will hit you up at the SL. I will be arriving in the evening around 6ish on the 21st. Dumb question, I have been hearing that it is unsafe to walk around these parts at night. Do you advise against walking around and exploring the neighbourhood during the evening when get I arrive?

James, I would recommend exploring only when there's sunlight. For me, once the sun's down, I taxi it.

Walking from the SL to the DR after dark - It is fine if you are with a couple other guys. And to be honest you would be fine doing it yourself 99% of the time. But you never know when that 1% is going to happen. Even if you are a tough guy with Street-Smarts, sure if a tranny gives you a hard time you will knock him out but then you have to explain it to the cops, and it is its word against yours. Why even take a chance with something like that...to save $4? Take a cab. It's rarely necessary but still smart.

You will be surprised, more than you think, several were at Amistad this weekend and also a few at SL. I am not taking a census but just letting you know there are reps of all ethnicities running around the 'gringo' gulch!

I generally walk alone to and from DR at night, But never stumbling drunk. Of course if i pull a chica, then its taxi back to LA. For your first time arrival i would def not because some of the side streets can get scary quite quickly with the trannies if u venture off course

Taxi is less than $4. And way less than that if you don't use one of the pirate taxis.

That is a pretty cheap insurance policy. Get your fitness walking in during the day.
