Just moved here for a mid term stay for work and interested in checking out the scene here, been reading over the awesome informative posts. I have a question, do many of the hotels allow short term room use? Not really interested in staying overnight, would rather pop in, enjoy a few drinks and have some fun and then head back home.

There are short time hotels. Motel Ruta del Paseo, for example.

There are a few "hot sheet", short-term hotels in the gringo gulch. Some are better than others in terms of room quality. Paradise Hotel. Hotel Diana, Hotel Asia.

There are even more Tico short-term than gringo hotels nearby, if you want to investigate them. Some are pretty decent. Nuevo Super, Nuevo California.

I think that the Morazan Hotel will rent rooms for a couple of hours, but watch out for being overcharged at the Morazan.

Except for the Morazan, you'll have to bring your own drinks.

Zona 2 is a good choice for drinking and indulging in our hobby in one place. Idem has a bar and rooms, but it is relatively expensive.

So would you recommend just booking a room at HDR for the night and exploring that way? Only a 15min uber ride from where I live , and have yet to really go down there and explore.

Doesn't Sportsmen's Lodge do some short-term room rentals if they have rooms available? Seems I remember someone saying that...

If you want to just rent a room to check out the scene downtown, I wouldn't pick Del Rey mainly for the fee they charge every time you take a girl upstairs. Sportsmen's has some (fairly) inexpensive rooms as does the Tamorino. You might even think about a room at Zona2 where they have some nice, large suites at fantastic prices. That way you can get the daytime action there and pull from DR/SL at night... ;)

If you want to rent a room for a day (or night), the HDR would be very convenient for your activities, but there is an $11 chica fee each time you take a girl to your room.

The Morazan is an easy, one-block walk from the HDR, and has NO chica fee.

I don't know the daily room rates, but I'd guess that the Morazan is cheaper.

Work permit? I'm in the process. How long did yours take?
