Can anyone update in the situation with withdrawing money from the ATM's? Are they still limiting the amount you can get? Is it the same at the Rey ATM's? Are there any ATM's anywhere that will allow $200 or so withdrawals?
Thank you for any information.

I was in CR 5-16 Feb. The BCR ATMs limited my funds withdrawal to $50, so I never used one.
At Scotia Bank ATMs , I was able to withdraw $400 for a $3 charge
At the ATM in the baggage claim area, I withdrew 200,000 colones for a $5 charge.

The Bank of Costa Rica (BCR) machines have a limit of $100, or 50,000 colones, per transaction - - - - AND a limit of 2 transactions per day (24 hour period). So, if you want $200, or 100,000 colones, you need to do 2 transactions.

BCR never imposes a fee on the cardholder to use their machines - - - even if it is not a BCR card. Your own bank may impose a fee on you, but BCR will not.

I use a Schwab ATM card almost every day, It has a chip. A rare few of the BCR machines don't like my chip. I just go to another machine in the BCR lobby with no problem.

Scotia Bank machines seem to NOT have a limit, but they impose a $3 fee per transaction. I go there if I need more than $200 in a 24 hour period. Schwab "eats" the $3 fee (or ANY fee) for any Schwab cardholder. I assume that the only limit I have at Scotia Bank is the daily limit I told Schwab to put on my account. Scotia Bank machines are in the Mas x Menos and Walmart stores. There is a Scotia Branch across the street from the Gold Museum.

I see guys often struggle at the machines in HDR, They seem to be out of money at some time every day, and they seem to malfunction for some reason. The BCR machines are only 1 block from HDR. But be aware that BCR shuts down their machines late at night for "security reasons." I assume that the ATM inside of the Colonial Casino, next to HDR, operates 24 hours a day.

North of la amistad if you go past the railroad tracks is a bank/hospital or something. I've taken out up to $800 multiple times there and never had an issue.

Only bank I ever go to. You can also go to the colonial casino by delray I believe you can take out up to $400-600 there no problem.

Also the exchange rate at the Colonial Casino is better than the Del Ray.

I usually use the Banco San Jose on Calle Central Alfredo Volio between Av 3 and 5.

It's a 10 minute walk (brisk walk) from La Amistad or SL.

Their ATMs let me withdraw $200 twice, then I go to the BCR on the corner and get 50K CRC.

Banco San Jose allows withdrawals of up to $200 twice per day in USD or CRC (which should be 160K CRC).

Banco Costa Rica (in my experience) allows withdrawals of up to $100 in USD or CRC (well, 50K CRC) once per day (never have gotten them to do it twice in one day).

BCR allows two transactions per 24 hour period.

BCR also has a limit of 50 Mil (or $100US) per transaction.

So, at BCR, you can get 100 Mil (or $200US) per 24 hour period.

But beware........
Once, they declined a transaction for me because the 24 hours had not completely run out. Later in the day, that decline was counted as ONE transaction when I tried to do 2 transactions after the 24 hours had completely run out.

Most other banks in SJ don't have limits like BCR. But the other banks impose a fee to use their machines. BCR does NOT impose a fee to use their machines, even if the card is a NON-BCR card.

Just my experience, but everytime I've tried to do a second transaction at BCR it has been denied.

My bank says its not them (my bank).

And my bank (First Command) refunds me ATM fees.

I quit going to BCR and have no issues getting 260,000 colones or $500.00, out of Banco Nacional or Scotia, Banco Popular is hit and miss depending on location but the minimum I have gotten out of them is 160,000 or $300.00

I go to BCR often. Several times a week, I do two 50 Mil transactions back-to-back. That gets me about $200 worth of colones.

Even if the two transactions are spaced out over a 24 hour period, I have no trouble doing 2 withdrawals in 24 hours at BCR.

If I need more than 100 Mil in a day, I go to a different bank.

I use a Schwab card, which has no fees for any reason.

I withdrew 250.000.00 colon today from the Scotia Bank atm in Multiplaza with a 1500 fee.
The amount that came out of my Bank of America account was $463.01,
I am happy with that !

Anyone know of atms that allow this much our more ?

I used to get c400.000.00 out of an Promerica atm in Itskazu plaza.
