Had to stay at the Dunn Inn this past week because one of my wings was in town and wanted to monger the gulch ( I don't mogner anymore and just hang with my Favorita in Escazu when in the area). I reserved the new section over the phone but forgot to ask for the bigger rooms. At $88 plus tax I got one of the smallest rooms I ever stayed at in the gulch. They could not upgrade me because all the big rooms were occupied. The room was clean enough but there were small bugs and ants all over. The staff was friendly enough but can anyone explain why Rigo the driver is still there? The guy speaks no English and eyeballs gringos with a bad attitude for years. WTF! Better walking across the street at the Mona Lisa and using James Brown or Erasmo!. Also, as others have said, The ALMA Restaurant does not care for us mongerers and the food is not so great of a value except for the delicious empanadas.

That's the highest price I have seen here for the DI. $88.00 plus tax? Talk to the manager Ana. Last month I paid $65.00 and that included tax. I did stay 10 days. I think Rigo is one of the best there. It's just that he has no english skills, but why should he? He's in his own country. I know the other 2 drivers too and they are both good guys but I have seen JB charge the gringos more. Not a lot, just more. Erasmo is a good guy too, and he speaks only 8 more words of English than Rigo. I agree 100% about Alma since the last two meals I had there were terrible, but I will have to try the empanadas. I don't even go to happy hour there since they took Kathy from behind the bar. ................Good update!

I also stayed at Dunn Inn in late September, paid $57 a night for 3 nights and had Rigo drive me out to Alajuela to meet my driver who was plate restricted from coming into the city center on that particular day.

Thought he was a good driver and yes he had no English language skills but I got by in broken spanglish

I stayed 12 days at the Dunn. Rigo picked me up and dropped me back at the airport for $25 each way. I found him quite ok.
The room I had was a little small but very clean and the hot water and shower are very good.
The Staff led by Ian Fernandez are great and he saved me big dollars by showing me how to get to Jaco and back for less than $5 on the bus from the brand new terminal called 7/10 - right on Ave 7 and calle 10.
The continental breakfast with a fruit plate and toast and coffee and orange juice and a slice of ham and cheese is filling and for 1$ you can get eggs too.
Xaviar who runs the breakfast is a little sweet heart.
The empanads for 3300 colones are to die for. Never tried any thing else at Alma.
i got a discount on the room . Was about $60 per night and no guest fees ofcourse.

Whitecat:

I think it would help Rigo to learn a little English to get more business and to get a personality as well. Until then he does not get my business or my wing's. It is true Erasmo speaks very little English but he makes it up in being a great guy and me and my wing had a lot of laughs with him as we did a few years back with JB.

If you go to ALMA definitely check out the empanadas, they are baked fresh right there on the spot! Watch out for the fish tacos, very small portions and mine was cold. I had the Torta something another day and it was pretty good. This is a striving gourmet restaurant and Tripadvisor currently has them as #5 in all of San Jose so keep that in mind.

I agree I got a bad deal on the room rates, I called on the telephone to reserve. I forgot to take my CRT card as usual so I did not even get the 10% discount, but back in the good ole days Boyd or Guy did not care, they knew I was a member and always gave me the discount.
