Jury is still out, but having tested this device I can assert it's darn good.....

The ad is hype. Do you have any white papers on its operation? How are we to know that the 'vpn providers' isn't our 'uncle' again?

Poor ToR ... it was a good run! ... ... but, all good things...!

Idiots abound. Individuals remark on something they haven't even heard of let alone tried or tested. Too, clearly, they do not know the Dutch. If for no other reason than a no brain necessary device to stream a USA based Netflix account when in CR, this tool more than pays for itself. However, the tools and secrets that lie within the device are what make it ever so functional.

Certain people need to be more concerned about their double life which includes a wife and daughter spying on and/or discovering the dirty little secret(s) certain individuals vainly attempt to obfuscate more so than my friends at the NSA which is everywhere anymore.....likely due to certain dolts who support all things Right, which includes PL 107-56.

Thanks for the pointless rant. So you don't actually know how it operates. That's fine. I don't trust security by obscurity.

Maybe you two IT/Internet experts can help me. I use IPVanish from Colombia for all my computers and devices. When I go to Youtube, I am on the Youtube NL site while IPVanish is activated. Is my computer being hi-jacked to Holland?

Keezel will soon announce its VPN partners. They've selected them based on performance and their logging policies. Some keep no logs whatsoever, others log for a maximum of 30 days and only so called meta-data. None of them log the websites you have visited. The great thing is that their VPN partners don't know the identity of keezel users (they just know keezeluser1324 for example, but not your name or address) and the guys at keezel don't know what you are doing since they don't handle the traffic.

Contracts with their VPN providers are now being finalized and that's they won't yet reveal them. If people like, they could simply wait a while until keezel announces their partners and then decide if you want to support keezel.

Keezel is a great improvement for anyone's privacy. However, they don't claim anonymity and with the stories of Edward Snowden and the NSA in recent times, they simply cannot make guarantees like '100% privacy and security'. TOR is/was a great piece of software but requires technical skills and good habits to keep your identity hidden (if you use it, but still log in to any of your accounts, like facebook, you reveal your identity). As such, keezel never advertise with claims, such as 'military grade security' or 'online anonymity'.

After the campaign keezel will raise prices to retail level. They are crowdfunding, which has some risks, therefor they'd offer great deals to their current backers as they support them from the very start. Keezel has planned shipment to start in December to the first backers. They will send every backer an email, right before shipment starts, asking for the shipping address, so they can send the keezel to them.

If people have something to offer the project, step forward and make your skills known and perhaps we'll let you to "help". Well, pretty much everybody.... :P

The annual fee is for the following reason. For keezel to work, keezel needs servers all over the world. This way people can connect their keezel to such a server. These servers need to be maintained by keezel's VPN partners. For this they have to pay them (the VPN server partners) and this is the reason why a fee is necessary. Keezel does not monitor MAC or IP addresses. 8)

Why would anyone want to carry around a VPN hardware device when you can get VPN software clients, like SurfEasy and ZenMate??? They are also a lot cheaper monthly subscriptions and have some limited free options.

From the Keezel website:
Quote:
Q: What are the advantages of keezel compared to VPN software?

A: Keezel works without installing software on your devices. Keezel is more secure because your device is never connected to the internet without an encrypted connection. Regular VPN software solutions always bear a risk before the connection is established and of information leakage in a side channel. Keezel also works with multiple devices simultaneously and on devices that don't allow software installation, such as screenless media players or corporate laptops.

Software VPN clients will tunnel and encrypt your connection once you've connected to the VPN server, but you're exposed as soon as you connect to that public Wifi, especially to sniffers on that Wifi network.

Also, it seems this device is marketed to the Granma crowd.

I've noticed that my current VPN (HMA) is not as idiot proof as before. Netflix sometimes (about 50%) drops me and I have to start all over again. Hulu only works if I am not casting to the TV on my chromecast.

Thoughts? (No flaming please)

The encryption occurs where the Certificate is installed. If the certificate is installed on the Keezel, your data is not encrypted until it is processed by the Keezel.

My software VPN clients install the encryption certificate on my PC, handheld, smartphone and my data is encrypted before it leaves my device.

Youtube thinks you are in Holland because the IP of the server you selected (IPVanish) is located there. Next time you connect to IPVanish, manually select a USA based server and you will get the USA version of YouTube.

How are you connecting to your VPN to get Netflix? The best way is with a router flashed with DD-WRT.
