Hey, planning a trip at the end of the month to Jaco and want to visit Cocal for the first time. The only available rooms are courtyard and poolside. Wanted ppl's opinions on which would be preferable. I ask because ive stayed at Sportsman Lodge before in a courtyard room and didn't like it all - they're basically part of the bar. If the Cocal poolside rooms are as noisy as SL courtyard, ill go with the Cocal courtyard.

Thanks.

Poolside at CoCal = Courtyard/Bar at SL

I think everthing shuts down at CoCal at 1:30 am so if you are a night owl, which I am not, you may not mind the party till 1:30 thing. If you want to sleep before 1:30 then the courtyard is what you want.

The last time I was there we had the last 2 rooms upstairs by the parking lot, 44 & 45 I believe, basically right above the guard shack. It was quiet as we wanted it to be!

I had room 37 on the first floor by the guard shack. Plenty quiet and just sit outside your room while the chicas walk by and take your pick. The total for 4 nights was $324. This was 2014

The poolside vs. the parking lot (courtyard) rooms at Cocal are basically identical in size/comfort. About the only difference will be the noise. As CostaReeker mentioned, the parking lot rooms are quieter in the evenings when the action around the pool is in full swing. So from 6pm-1:30am, the poolside rooms will have a lot of noise. However, the rest of the day/night, those rooms will be quiet again until the next night. Parking lot rooms are quiet most of the day with the only time they may get a little noisy is when the girls are coming/going along with the taxis dropping them off.

Another difference seems to be the internet. Poolside rooms always have a connection while the parking lot rooms seem to have trouble with a good connection.

Courtyard are cheaper I believe. Only other rooms are a few on the beach side. I generally stay on the Courtyard. Better privacy. You don't have to walk through a crowd to get in your room in the evening.

Stayed in parking lot room once nice quieter than pool side. Given choice now I would choose parking lot room if JR. suite not available or crocs.
