On Monday, July 27th the employees of ICE are going on a large protest (estimated around 10,000 protesters) which will most likely shut down everything in and around downtown San Jose. They are beginning at La Sabana park at 7am then at 10am will begin marching across town to the Legislative Assembly which is a few blocks east of Del Rey. If you are arriving that day, you may have no way to get to your hotel until that evening.

Looking at the pictures and TV coverage...I feel sorry for anyone trying to get around San Jose today.

I just spent 6 hours (10am-4pm) in downtown Chepe. Except for for about 6 blocks of Ave. Central going east from where the walking part begins (up the hill to the legislative building) I saw no other closed streets and no traffic jams. The street closed is the main street coming in from San Pedro (where I live) and it seems to be closed at least 2-3 days a month with protests going on at the legislative buildings. There was maybe more people walking but not enough to make it really noticeable. All in all, at least in the gulch/downtown area it was just the usual heavy traffic!!!
