I have been looking also and usually fly Delta connecting in Atlanta for $550 RT. Now, I can't anything for under $680 RT. I have never paid more than $600 RT to SJO.

So I decided to check on BKK instead for a maiden voyage. There is nothing listed in the next 8 months for under $1500 RT.

While the airlines will be making record profits this year and next, I will be at home, working on my knitting until the call of the chicas becomes unbearable.....

I signed up at FareCompare.com for price alerts but if anyone knows of another/better site, please feel free to share it.

I can't offer specific help but here's a comparo of the major airfare alert sites--it's offered by Airfarewatchdog, so might give that a try: http://www.airfarewatchdog.com/blog/477 ... s-compare/

Just purchased tickets (today) for May on Southwest. From Portland Maine with one stop in Baltimore (BWI) it was $457 lock, stock and barrel. Southwest begins flying from BWI-SJO in March. Good for the east coast guys I guess.

I am currently checking airfares on our SEA trip in May.

LAX-BKK R/T; DMK (small airport in Bangkok) - HKT (Phuket) R/T $ 822.66 total. Another $60 or so R/T from BKK to Phuket by shared van. That would give us a week in Phuket, and a week in Pattaya, with the last night in BKK.

Seems pretty reasonable to me.

A couple of guys seemed interested in our SEA excursion, stay tuned it is very tentatively May 16-31. Last year there were eight of us.

Health & happiness............

In my experience of over 10 ten years of checking airline prices, it does not matter what day you book. Have seen good rates everyday of the week. They do change often, sometimes within a couple of hours. I check prices 6 to 7 times a day. Booked a flight for January, early February for CR on delta out of lax in may for 442.00, nonstop. Don't mind paying a little extra for nonstop. Buddy booked a couple of weeks later for 510.00 out of Sacramento. I think it does matter somewhat on what days you fly. Don't recall seeing those low of prices on delta nonstop out of lax for a few years, if ever. I do believe airlines keep track of what hits they are getting on different flights. Maybe I'm wrong on that.

Watch out for SW from IAH. There is a real war going on right now with UA. I got a Chicago to San Jose for $424.00 and it was cheaper on other days.

SW flies out of Houston Hobby ONLY. CR flights will begin in October.
UA and Spirit fly to San Jose currently out of IAH.

Flew Spirit down last Thursday from Houston IAH/SJO for $101 down and $104 back on Sunday at 2 am. Direct flights both ways and fares I quoted included the $21 checked bags. Drove down 3 1/2 hours from Dallas and it was a beat down for sure but from Dallas it would have been around $700 R/T. Got the IAH/SJO fares next week with bags and the $16 trip insurance for $248 R/T.
