I just spent a month a the Hotel Mona Lisa and was very well taken care , just excellent service. I had different room than I asked for when I arrived because the guy in it was staying a few days longer , so I had to wait for him to leave. The first room was good but the safe didn`t work and wasn`t bolted down. I went down and put my main money in the casino safe and then told the front desk about my room safe problem. I went back to my room and 10 minutes later a guy is there with a new safe and he bolts it down. A few days later when I checked on the other room I wanted the girl at the desk have it to someone else. Later I told Helmet about it and I would like a room at the back of the hotel away from the street noise. He have me a key and told me to check out the room, it was a very nice deluxe room which I took at no extra charge. This is my second time staying at the Mona Lisa and have had nothing but good to say about my stays and with the specials they have for CRT VIPs , it only makes it better.

Good price for a long stay. I must say they are trying there. I love the people but had problems with the wi-fi more than once.

I use an Alfa network long- range adapter model AWUS036 which cost about $15 and had very good Wi-Fi. Many hotels have some rooms that don`t get good Wi-Fi so it`s good to have and is very small.

The hotel is trying. It is doing a lot of things right. The price when at ($39) $46 with tax is fantastic. The restaurant is making strides to improve and is reasonably priced. The bars give great service compared to L'Amistad that is consistently slow, the Sportsman's where the girls play grab ass and you have to jump up and down and wave to get them to take an order, and the Del Rey where they rip you off while doing their best to ignore you. The bartenders are attractive and fun to flirt with. It is not unusual to find several working girls, I counted over 20 Friday night, at one time. Cien is not in their vocabulary. The poker game gets underway daily in the afternoon with a $100 buy-in and is considered one of the best games in town. I have stayed in the hotel at least 15 nights in the past 6 months and have not lost anything. I always have a laptop and camera that I leave in the room. It is not perfect. The Wifi sucks. I had one night where the hot water didn't work. Getting extra towels at night is not easy. I have experienced problems at other hotels where the price was considerably higher. The worst room that I have had at the Mona Lisa was twice as good as the lower priced rooms at other hotels that were either unbelievably loud, uncomfortably small or without windows.

The issue I had last yr was trying to get someone to answer the phone and reply to emails...there was just not communication at all with anyone 2 months prior to my trip. I ended up passing because I wasn't sure if I was going to get a room...Im sure they have solved that though...I would def. try this hotel...Pops your correct about the SL...the barkeeps are ones to watch once Bill leaves the building...I was with Cowboy Tom and got stiffed with a liquor tab that I didn't even drink...I don't drink shots nor liquor nor do I run tabs in the Gulch... Cowboy Tom also got in the argument and couldn't believe what was happening....I think re raised more of a stink than I did....the barkeep kept insisting it was mine...I argued and argued and asked for Bill but it was the end of the night Bill had already left and they were clearing the tabs and I guess they wanted cab fare or stiff me with someone's tab.
Out of frustration and and being hazed for the tab I paid it....I haven't returned since...as this experience left me not wanting to return...I know its petty but its the principal of the matter...

I've been over 20 times, here is what I think...

Del Rey...Monger Heaven for the English speaker....especially the first timer... who will never leave the hotel except to go across the street to eat and doesn't mind paying cien and the extra to go upstairs. Flip flops and wrinkled t shirt heaven. I stayed here when it was the place to stay.

SL...love the place but rooms too high priced for me. Good bar and good food. I go there to eat and drink all the time. Good place to just hang around. Comfort zone for the non Spanish speaker. Cien Boy heaven.

Zona II....I don't stay in places without windows.

Dunn Inn...good comfort zone and clean rooms. Nice folks.

Amistad....loved the place but left within 24 hours because of the train noise. If you are a deep sleeper this will not affect you.

Mona Lisa...Good pricing, dated rugs and furniture, nice folks, they should start serving breakfast again, but internet problems.

Best hotel location per quite especially if you get a room against the back of hotel. Outdated rooms but offers peace/quite where you can actually sleep.

I think only one of the suites doesn't have windows. Two of the other three have balconies. Maybe you are thinking of Scores.

I have run over a hundred tabs at the SL and have never been over charged. I think what happened to you was definitely an anomaly.

It's the "baby one drink for me" that deters me a bit from this place. I expect this from the local talent but not from the actually bartenders them selves.
