Hola amigos..

Looking for thoughts, advice, recommendations, for hotels in the Tamarindo Area. There are a few threads going, but nothing too comprehensive.

Incredibly after 49 trips to Costa Rica, I have never passed a night in the Tamarindo Area. I have flown there on NATURE AIR twice but have stayed in Flamingo both times.

Looking to spend two nights there end of Feb.and an seeking moderate price accommodation near the playa but away from the bulk of the noise.

This is a "bringing sand to the beach" trip so "chica friendly" hotel policies and mongering locales not a concern.

I stayed at the Best Western Tamarindo Vista Villas, across the street from the beach. It might get noisy on Fridays, because of the party at Crazy Monkey Bar.

Daría is nice. Usually $200 ish a night, especially February. I used to go on Fridays to play poker and would get there early cause the imported rib eye in the restaurant next to the casino was as good as it gets for CR!!!!!! About $40, loved it! Usually won poker also!

You are going to make me dog for a name of a place with some semi cool beach front villas about 300 meters past casino on right. Went for hloween like 3 years ago (disappoinwnt but hotel cool) was like $80 a night but also that was October.

In general I look at Tamarindo as a back packer european spot.

Can I suggest check out Playa samara mejor! Love that place. But depends if you are driving or flying nature air (CHECK THE FLIGHT STATIS, last time I looked tam airport was closed for runway maintenance!!!!!!!)

If you go to samara look to The Treehouses Playa Samara! One of my favorite escapes from playas del coco! And avoid coco, unless with MuchoGusto, this place sucks now!

Planning to fly in on Nature Air..pretty cheap right now... no driving.. just want to spent a few days stumbling from bed to beach to bar

i looked for the beachfront cabanas CRGolfer suggested, and that resulted in me staying at the Iguana
Surf Club Cabanas. These weren't really 'beachfront", but across the main road from an access area to the beach. Paid $77 a night, which included all fees and taxes. Stayed for three nights. Place had excellent nighttime security, and the staff were friendly. Secure parking for my rental car. Room was spacious but basic... adequate for what we were looking for. Some hot surfer chicks in the next room.

Tamarindo was great. We drove up to Playa Grande/Playa de las Ventanas which were gorgeous desolate beachs... prob even more lovely than the beaches in Manuel Antonio.

Fantantic eats at Pangas Beach Club, Patagonia Steak House and La Isquina's wood fire Pizza Restaurants.

1000 times better than Jaco.

There were some gals who my trained eye identified at "probably" working, but it was all very discreet.

NatureAir got expensive quick, so rethought my thoughts on car rental and decided to go that route. I drove out there via Rte 27 on a Sat afternoon and got caught up in Road works on the way and lost a good hour. Waze told me to go all the way up on Rte 1 but PV Transport told me 27 was better. Should have listened to Waze at least in this instance. Drive back to SJO was better though, tuesday morning.

The route across the Bridge of Amistades was wide open almost all the way. The last leg is recently paved, although they are still working on some bridges, but it all moved quickly.

All in all great trip bringing sand to the beach!

I would recommend puente de Amistad route and later connect to route 27 if you are going to Tamarindo in the future.

Also, feel free to pm me if you want some rental car help, for less than what PVT charges for an airport pick up you can rent a car and NO CREDIT CARD needed for deposit, and no INSURANCCE RIP OFF LIKE major companies. You deposit is in cash and he pays you back with the same exact bills when returning the car.

If goingother places than Tamarindo, then PVT was 100% correct about route 27 was best... At least in my hundreds of trips back and forth. However based in traffic/transitos/constriction, wade is usually spot on.

I ended up paying 319 US all in for 5 days for the Diahatsu Terrios ... only slightly more than I paid years ago for the same car with Thrifty. they also took a 1062US deposit on the Credit Card... which i thought was kinda large. but i had no issues and was only charged the 319

In June of 2014 the wife and I stayed at the Rip Jack Inn and loved it.. Very small and very close to the beach. They didn't ask any questions about our traveling companion (she dressed and acted appropriately).

I would most certainly stay there again for true "get away from it all" time on the beach.

The food at the restaurant was very good as well.

This is NOT a resort but a small off the main path property.
