The GM fired all the night security, maintenance, and front reception people working at the hotel about 4 months ago. I personally haven't heard about any problems since the firing...

It's a shame that you have to take the heat for your bosses actions (or inaction in this case). The fact that they fired the night shift certainly is a step in the right direction, but it's also a "tell" that they knew what was going on all along.

Of course they know what's going on.....but they choose to look the other way and instead blame it on drunk guys.. I like Guy Grande, but I'm sure he knows that there's a problem that needs to be fixed. As he mentioned, it's not in his job title to fix problems at ML unless it's a marketing issue. It just sucks that he has to deal with some phucked up people who work there. When I went to Hellmuth about my safe issue, he didn't give a Phuck about me and basically told me to Phuck off. I wouldn't trust that dude to manage a hot-dog cart.

Some guys wanted Guy to give us an update on what the ML is doing about the room safes being robbed. He does and he`s called a lair. I can`t understand why he does not want to post . Would you call him a lair to his face , I don`t think so, only when you post hiding behind a screen name. I`ve stayed at he ML for 12 days in November and will be staying at the ML next week for a month. BTW in my many over the years I have seen many drunk out of control guys take 1 or 2 girls to their room and I have always said to myself these guys are looking for trouble. I think the ML is trying the best they can but they can`t fire everyone with good reason. So lighten up and if you stay there and are worried about money in your room safe put it in the Casino bank safe. This is not to offend the CRT members who are straight shooters only the buffoons.

I'm fairly new to the board.

I do have a friend who has stayed at the Mona Lisa and said he liked it. Other than that I don't know of anyone, personally, who has stayed there.

I have read the posts on the board about the Mona Lisa and it seems like this issue happened a while back. My question is, what was the last date that someone stayed there and had a problem?

BTW - Take it from an old hotel manager:

Those electronic room safes are not secure and you can open them with something as simple as a soda can.
The electronic locks with the key cards, easier to get into than an old fashioned lock and key.

If they have one always use the hotel's safety deposit boxes.

We have two types of safes. Half our safes our combination safes and the other half have a key. The only way to get in the key safe is if someone gets your key from you. the other I don't know. We haven't had any problems in months. So I believe the problem is solved. Guy

Guy has been a perfect host over the years, Guy, do you have anything special going on for Superbowl? How is the restaurant coming along?

Thank you for the compliment. I really try my best to be of Service to the guests of the hotel. I've spent some 33 years in a program ( 12 step ) that teaches along with other things about not lying and about being of Service to people you meet. So my job as Guest Service is to help customers. I did this at the Dunn Inn and now at the Mona Lisa. Before that I had a successful tour company in the United States for 15 years which was taking people on tours around the World. It was all about being of Service to my clients. I do have a few bosses here at my hotel that pay my salary and I do what I'm told. But I will try and answer all the questions to the best of my ability.
As far as Super Bowl. We have a party starting at 5pm Beers 1,000 colones, well drinks double shots for 1,500. We have bocas and food. Nice lounge area to watch the game with 7 TV's in English. and my boss tells me there will be lots of girls. Also for those that don't know this our restaurant has been leased out to a family thats been 29 years in the restaurant business. The food is much better and the prices cheaper. Thanks, Guy guest services Mona Lisa

Seems like some guys come on this thread defending ML for no other reason than they like Guy.... Well--I like Guy too but I like my $$ more (sorry if that sounds selfish)...Not cool to blame all these theft incidents on dumb drunk guys--then admit that several hotel staff members were fired to stop the theft problem...

Sorry if I sounded like I'm blaming just the guys. I really didn't mean for it to sound like that. I just remember guys walking in with two girls and everyone was drunk and they went to the guys room and he came down two days later saying he was robbed. It is just frustrating when that happens. I don't know what happened and if I did I would say so. It's not what I do here at the hotel. Please feel free to come talk to my boss and maybe he can help with a better answer. I only came on to say the hotel is staying open and is not sold. That I know for sure. But if it changes I will let everyone know. Guy

It sucks to see a few people attack him and the hotel about what might have happened. If you want to believe the rumors, don't stay there.

I don't think people are attacking Guy over the fact that thefts took place there. People are attacking Guy (and the ML in general) about the way that they have communicated about and managed the thefts that took place.

In his first post, Guy blames drunk guys and their girls for the thefts. In a later post, he points out that they've fired a bunch of people, and now they don't have problems. Those two things are not compatible. Did they fire everyone because a bunch of drunk gringos got robbed by girls? That doesn't make sense. It seems they fired everyone, and then the thefts stopped. Perhaps he is arguing "well, we fired everyone, and as a result, we have a much smarter class of drunk gringos in the hotel"?

A much more appropriate way of handling this would be a timely statement to the effect that "We don't know what happened in any of these individual cases. However, out of an abundance of caution, we have replaced many key employees and installed an extensive surveillance system to help deter theft. We're committed to making the Mona Lisa a safe environment for our guests."

On another board a member reported his room safe was robbed 1/26.

I met Guy years ago at the Dunn Inn, seems like a good man and apparently good at whatever it is he does. But just like back then after he assured me my bag would be safe in their "secure storage" and everything of value was stolen out of it, it was the same excuses. Oh well, sorry, we can't watch every employee. It's not his problem or responsibility if your valuables or cash gets stolen.
With all these recent reports, common sense says BUYER BEWARE when it comes to your valuables at ML.

This device, while I'm sure not foolproof, can give extra security to your hotel safe.
