Great job! Newbies listen to what he tells you. Will save you mey, time, frustration etc.

One i disagree with.

Hotel Del Rey (HDR or DR) http://www.hoteldelrey.com (bars in the hotel are where chicas can be found literally 24 hours/day, the rooms are pretty bad, uncomfortable, old, most would not recommend staying there-only visit the bars to pick up chicas, no CRT discount)

All he says is true. I recommend the Del Rey for newbies and anyone that just wants to get to the women fast and safe. The only taxi you need is from the airport to the Del Rey. Food from room service or walk across to the Delmar Rest. You can Get drunk and don't worry about getting mugged etc while walking because you and your room at at GROUND ZERO.. First trip alone and don't speak squat of Spanish then the del rey is for you..
When you get a bit more comfortable then you can walk around a bit during the day. If you get lost then you might have walked into a dangerous area. No Spanish no problem. Just tell any taxi driver. HOTEL DEL REY and you will be back home in a few minutes.

Get ready the fun is about to begin.

This is a whole pissing-contest subject. You either love the HDR or not. I've never stayed, so cannot comment on the rooms and such. But the $11 chica fee would kill me. (My last trip would have cost me an extra $198.)

No newbie should limit themselves to just the HDR. In fact, I feel the HDR is only a night-time venue (yes there are chicas there in the daytime). The city itself has much to offer in terms of entertainment and adventure. So unless a newbie wants nothing more than to drink, phuck, and sleep, they'll want to see more than just the HDR.

I see no pissing contest at all.

"So unless a newbie wants nothing more than to drink, phuck, and sleep, they'll want to see more than just the HDR."

I have been going to CR since 2003 and some years more than once. The guys i have been going with want nothing more than to drink, phuck, and sleep.

I tottaly agree with you. There is so much more than just staying at the DELREY. I was just hoping to alleviate the fears of some Newbies. The first time i went i asked a couple of the guys about going for a taxi ride and find some where else to eat.. They were nervous NELLIES and they even said"How will we get back?"
I told them all we have to do is just say HOTEL DELREY and back we will come.

It might have been better overall to say "In addition" instead of i disagree.
But hey! We aren't little bitches around here anyway; are we?

Orange is an very experienced pro and definitely knows his way around. He won't give you bad advice.

I will not get into the HDR pissing contest - I've posted many times in the past my opinion of the place - while Versitle does make some points, especially for new guys, far too many basically know the HDR, KL, Scores, and Zona II - and that is a shame. There is a whole world out there and the options IMO, are poor at the HDR - especially if she knows:

A You are staying there
B Are new to Costa Rica

What a new guy should consider is hooking up and taking a tour Esposodebarbie, offers them - you could also PM BangBang57 and Bilko - all have offered tours in the past.

I think - even though many there might think they know more than what they do - is stay at a place like Sportsmans, or La Amistad - and talk with some of the guys you might encounter at the bar - but noting beats a tour by a knowledgable vet.

I've posted many times how my first tour w/ BB57 helped me, and this was about 6 years ago - and I was not exactly new back then - but it really helped - plus a nice friendship developed.

Then, once you know what's out there, if you still - for whatever reasons - prefer the Delrey, you at least have a basis for comparison.

nothing wrong with staying at the HDR. But newbies should not limit themselves to it. It is probably the most expensive place for pu*sy in the central valley. Still, a first-timer would have a great time living on-site. It's when the 'newness' wears off that the place shows itself as lacking. (And I suppose the same holds true for the country as a whole, which explains the exodus of many vets to MDE.)

As for 'advice', there are two principal classes of topic here, the general and the subjective. This thread is supposed to be solely about the general, and most experienced guys agree on these points (ie. use colones, visit HDR/KL/SC/Z2/SL, seek vets, use taxis, etc).

It is the subjective topics where personal tastes and opinion muddle the process of advisement. Orange and I agree on the general topics (and this thread was important to me when I first arrived), but subjectively we have wildly different tastes, and thus our advice can diverge rapidly.

When newbies come to this thread (and the board as a whole), the best thing they can do is read, Read, READ ... everything, including the pissing-contest threads. They will quickly get a feel for the different approaches to the hobby, and will get so much more out of their first visit.

The only thing I'd add to this BD is the importance of a "guide" - someone with real boots on the ground experience - frankly, while I think sometimes you can be a little naieve (sp??), I think you have done a tremendous job - in a realtively short time - of experiencing and understanding San Jose, and the gulch.

While I think its partly b/c you are a smart, sharp guy, with a teachable attitude, I also think you had an excellent guide and mentor throughout the whole process - one I am respectful and greatful for his assistance.

I had been coming to CR for nine years when I met him - I was also less naieve than the average guy - however a real turning point was the simple act of what started with a tour, and developed into a friendship.

Every new guy would benefit by knowing someone willing to share -or pay a modest price and take a tour - can't say it enough.

That comes after they have read, Read, READ the forums. I am talking about step 1 (the research), and you've time-jumped into they're first trip already.

I guess - but I never hear you - or very many others - suggest it (apology in advance if I missed it - my days of researching posts are over - doing this from what I recall) - and as you know personally, its invaluable

It might even be more important than not using the term Tica to mean whore - that's how strongly I feel about it!

Now butch up and get on board :P    :)

Ahhhh... the Del Rey, still controversial....

When I lived in CR for 2 years and pounded 2 chicas a week on average, probably less than 1 out of 10 came from the HDR at that time, I would go there in the afternoon on my day off and score hotties who would be willing to go all the way to Escazu with me via taxi typically for $50 to $60. The rest I cultivated at obscure MP's, referrals and Zona Blue. There would sometimes be months gone by and I hadn't ventured downtown and NEVER paid more than $80 and even that was rare, $40 to $60 was my comfort zone and plenty great hotties providing gfe delivered well for that fee. In 2 years I will retire there and return to that same methodology. :D

That being said, I enjoy staying there while on vacation and having the largest selection available for the short 4 or 5 days I visit, and I continue to find magnificent hotties delivering GFE for between $50 and $100. The trick is not to worry about WHERE you find the girl but the interview and expectations you make clear. If you are "afraid" of the Del Rey and feel all the girls are sharks who will outwit you, overcharge you and deliver very little, it's best you stay away, because you will subconsciously invite that type of trouble.   :( :( :(

My last visit all my encounters at the HDR were magnificent and memorable, and several guys I met staying there had the same experiences, the place continues to be packed so it can't be all that bad. I don't limit myself to the HDR, I visit Zona and Scores as well as SL and call some of my old favorites as well. :!:

I do meet some guys who do get all their poontang there and never venture anywhere else, I agree they are doing a disservice to themselves as CR has much to offer variety wise, but nonetheless, if they're satisfied with their vacation, puda vida to them....

I mostly agree w/ you Net :) at least somewhat :P  :P

The only time I get annoyed is when they seem to think (as has been said to me many times) that $100 is the going rate and the HDR is the best game best option in San Jose.

Back atcha, Scuba, I follow your posts and you often offer excellent advice for newbies and old timers as well. I noticed the last trip I took in June, almost all the girls I spoke with in HDR were asking for cien, even mousy little mediocre quality girls I would be hesitant to offer more than $60 for, that was quite a surprise!

Since I have a bad habit of cultivating "sugarbabies'' in the USA, I had an especially super hot curvy fiesty little 21 year old Puerto Rican GFE provider that became my hobby, I got spoiled, "wifed up" and hadn't visited CR in over a year and 1/2 prior to that trip. I think you're in S Fla as well so you may know they're not too hard to come by here. I was getting a weekly pounding AND housecleaning for a c note and dinner, I almost felt ashamed of my bad self....

My past visits, going back to 2102, super hot 9's and 10's at HDR in the evening were asking cien but mid level cuties were asking typically $50 to $80, so I was quite taken back at the change. :x :!:

Now while I'm earning an American paycheck I don't mind paying cien for an incredible stunning 9 or 10 (at least in my book) but I can't bring myself to paying that kind of moola for a medium quality female when I can do better at any of the MP's for $50 or so and tip. :)

Prior to this trip I can't recall if I ever paid cien, if I did it was exceedingly rare and might have been an $80 session plus $20 tip. this time I decided I would, but only for (in my opinion) super hotties, 9's or 10's who agree to my requests since in 2 years I plan on retiring down here and returning back to my frugal ways on a lessor income. :| I figured this last two years prior to my retirement, since I can easily afford it, why not enjoy the pricier creme de la creme.

Previously I had avoided super stunning ho's thinking they were conceited, self centered and would not deliver. I always picked nice looking cuties with tight bodies who were just fine for me but this time I thought why not try something different, why not go for the gold. :o :?: :?: :?:

To my surprise, I picked 3 HDR evening girls who were (again, my opinion) absolutely first class Miss Universe contestant quality and agreed to cien after they agreed to my ''requests". They all delivered superb GFE memorable experiences and I got unrequested 1 and 1/2 to 2 hour sessions, no rush, no clockwatching no "leche poppi" bs and fabulous service. :D

It almost seemed they were returning the compliment since I told them all in advance I rarely would pay cien but I thought they were exceptional and special.  In conclusion, even an opinionated old timer like me can learn something new each trip, the super stunners who I thought would be stand offish were quite cooperative, sweet, fun and well worth the cien :!: :!: :!:

As for the mid levels who I talked to in the afternoons looking for a $50 to $60 value who stood their ground on cien, I walked away and ended up at different MP's, mostly Scores, and was pleased to find fab fukks for fifty.... :!: :!: :!:
