Look, I'm happy you have found a place that meets your needs, but the reason many of us <or speaking for a constituency of one, me) prefer other places has zero to do with the reasons you gave.
How 'bout the fact that the rooms were last redecorated when Jimmy Carter was president? Just for starters.
We all have different likes and dislikes; and yes, I have stayed at the HDR - once - and been there many times. I don't hate the place - I just think other locations suit me better, and while from your post I don't consider
you uninformed or a newbi, some would say that staying there marks you as such.
Since I speak a little Spanish, I've had more than one chica tell me point blank that staying there marks you as a newbi, and someone who is ripe for the picking. I don't fully buy this - no more so than that trite "belly of the beat" comment - I love horses, but I don't wanna sleep on a manure pile, if you take my point

I'm phucking w/ you a little Net
(Hell, one of the places I stay marks me as a cheap Phuck - the Morazon - and the folks who hate that place, and fat dopey "Rickey Ricardo" the dopey bellhop are almost as legion as those disliking the HDR

But in many ways it meets my needs, as I'm sure the HDR meets yours - however - if you want that atmosphere, the Sportsmans is a better place IMO

)
Lot's of people comment on the rooms in the Rey, but they're clean, large, a/c works, got king size beds, (I once got a room with 2 queen size beds, shoved them together and had some wild threesomes) the cleaning ladies do an excellent job, TV is nice, bathroom has hot showers, so it's good enough for me, I stayed at the Presidente once against my will but my boss was paying, and the rooms were quite elegant but the place gave me a hassle about bringing a chica to my room after they promised they wouldn't.
I always ask for a room with a window on the third floor or higher, I've learned the no window rooms are claustrophobic and 2nd floor rooms can be noisy. Everyone is different, I can see why some guys like the smaller more boutique hotels that are quieter and guys can enjoy an Animal house ''frat" atmosphere, me, I'm a heat seeking guided missile searching for poontang when I get here so I like being where there's the largest choices. Since I've been at this game awhile, I've honed my interview skills and when I encounter a pro who thinks she's going to milk me, I'm usually smart enough to blow her off and keep looking until I get what I want. I easily blow off 3 or 4 a night before finally zeroing in on a sweet cooperative GFE providing honey, that's part of the fun, too, flipping off the bitches!
One of my buddies swears by the Morazon, of course his fingerprints are embedded in every coin he ever handled, but he likes the low price and he can walk to the Rey, pick out one (he finds the cheap ones, not always the prettiest or youngest ones if you get my drift) and walks her back there. If you're looking for a bargain, it can't be beat...
SL seems like a fun place for guys who like to hang out and enjoy a frat atmosphere, it's a quieter nicer neighborhood, NF is just around the corner, but the selection is too small for my tastes and the place is so damn popular, me and my crew can't get a room there (we tried once because my buddy is a musician and had a gig there) but we're so disorganized we finally get our plans together about a week before we come at best and that place usually needs a couple weeks notice unless you're willing to stay in the loud rooms in the front.
If you're looking for elegant quiet rooms in a nice neighborhood close to everything, the Dunn Inn fits the bill, good food, too.
Don't get me started on Jimmy Carter !!! The 2nd worst president ever...ooops...I know, no political discussion here...I'll shut up and sign off now....
