Damn shame too, as this Site in particular is fueled by institutional knowledge built up over time, and now seemingly lost (as this Thread demonstrates). Oh well. It would be good though if somebody saying "RTFM" first makes sure the manual still exists.

Devo's acerbic response highlights one of the problems with the forums: they are not newbie-friendly. He has a point about researching a topic prior to asking a question, and PR is exactly right that the SEARCH facility on the forum is simply not up to the task of providing this ability.

However, the OP was not asking about how the situation was in 2010! He wants to know the situation right now. Instead of getting a quick ground report, he got snapped at.

There is a difference between 'black men' and 'African Americans', as search terms. They are not compatible.

Only True Sportsmen answered the OP. Hopefully the OP hasn't given up on CRT as a valuable source of 'friendly' information.

In addition to TS, there were a couple of posters -- including yours truly (see below) who answered wa1735's question:

Given the CRT search function is broken, posters like JazzboCR (and again yours truly) tried to provide further assistance by linking to past threads about the topic. I can't speak for Jazz but I figured it could only help wa1735 if he read about other mongers' opinions and personal experiences on how non-Caucasians are treated by the chicas. If nothing else it might emphasize the point he shouldn't let fear of potential racist attitudes from a few chicas prevent him from coming down and having a great time in SJO.

IMO a thread with posts starting in 2010 discussing cultural dynamics in play during the mongering experience in Costa Rica remains just as relevant today as it was then. It's not like chica attitudes about race have suddenly changed during Laura Chinchilla's presidency. I think providing links to past threads does have value.

tricky, MH ... you didn't really 'answer' his question. And truthfully, as white guys, we can't answer it with anything other than 3rd party hearsay. But you are very much right that helping the OP by listing old threads is the right thing to do.

As for changes in attitudes, if you speak to chicas you know, they'll give you the pulse on the topic, speaking freely about their opinions. I query such topics due to insatiable curiosity ... many statements start with things like "..in the past year or so", and such, which suggest the topic is highly dynamic, changing as stories circulate the chica network.

TS's eyewitness account is about as good a response as a white person can make on the topic. Hopefully some of our black CRT brothers will post about their experiences. It may not be my business, but I am curious if they face the same kind of thing as I read on backpage ads.

I do join with you in wishing there were more or even some 1st person perspective. Absent that, Bro MH and I did what we could. I believe most of the posts are still there - if you have bookmarks to old posts you can verify this yourself. Which means the site's search metadata and/or index are screwed up.

No. Please don't do that--just find a different way or tone to engage. This topic isn't going away. Nor should it if we as a loose group want to expand intelligently and more inclusively (necessary for Our Crowd's thriving, if not survival). Not to sound Apocalyptic but a younger audience of whatever ethnicity or stratum needs to be convinced that what we (and they) say has serious value--info, opinions, deep-seated questions. Remember they will be majority (I mean guys 35-40 and under) pretty soon and this is a legacy/stewardship Site. I'm not OTT on this--I truly believe it. "I only look this tall because I stand on the shoulders of giants"--never truer. An organization either regenerates or it withers and dies--no other choices.
