After some recent unpleasant life events[1], and surviving the holidays, I'm feeling runover, flat, and in need of a bit of attitude adjustment.

What's the shortest notice on which it's reasonable to plan a mongering trip to SJ, including a few nights' stay in a monger-friendly hotel, preferably the SL? I'm not looking to go Super Bowl weekend, although I'd like to stay over *a* weekend, but otherwise, I'm flexible about travel dates and times. I'd like to stay at least about 4-5 days, to make the air travel out of Boston worthwhile.

I'm thinking you guys who fly airlines like Spirit that do last-minute airfare deals, and have the flexibility to take advantage of them, must know what to do to for monger-friendly, short-notice accommodations, so I look to you for advice.

My last trip was roughly a year ago, also in January, and this would be my second trip to the Gulch. Last time, I started planning and making reservations in, oh, I don't know, September or October, based on advice I found here. Stayed at SL, had one of the best times of my life. There's a chica or two I wouldn't mind seeing again too. :)

Thanks.

[1]Long story, nothing life-threatening or health-related, don't worry.

Shortest notice? :? I booked a trip 16 hrs. in advance once and had plenty of time to buy condoms, pack, put my mail on hold plus find a room. You can always hunt for a better room after the first night. It's called flying by the seat of your pants...and an adventure

Hey friend, I think the signature line you use on your CRT posts quoting Hunter Thompson: "Buy the ticket and take the ride" answered your own question.

It's going to be one of those trips and probably work out better then the best laid plan! :P

I try to have the best plan to get laid....

Seriously, I'm one of those "planner" type folks...likes to have everything figured out in advance, especially for the really vital stuff like airline tickets, a place to stay, and spending money. I don't have to have everything figured out down to the last detail but not having a place to stay booked in advance does make me more nervous than I'd like.
